After collecting lot of information, we are happy to write that NO ANY DAMAGE TO LIFE AND PROPERTY by this quake in Lae, New Papua New Guinea.

Geoscience Australia's website said the quake that hit today in Lae, papua New Guinea could be felt by people 1,523 kilometres away, and that damage may have occurred within a 122-kilometre radius.

Strong earthquakes are relatively common in Papua New Guinea. But today's quake is first over magnitude 7 since 2005. The country lies on the "Ring of Fire" - an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim.

People inside the country's Parliament building in the capital of Port Moresby saw windows rattling during the quake
We don't expect to get update news instantly as the epicenter area is inaccessible
. It is remote mountainous region

Some people reported it to be felt as far as 500 km from epicenter. It lasted for 2-3 minutes!!

USGS has revised its data as
M 7.1 @ 121 km depth with epicenter 89 km (55 miles) SSW of Lae, New Guinea, PNG.
Now the revised data shows 506,000 people experienced strong shaking of MMI VI.
People of Wau, Bulolo, Lae, Kerema of Papua New Guinea will have experienced strong shaking of MMI VI.

The maximum slope in the area of the earthquake is 59.6% and the maximum altitude is 3572 m. Since this is a medium slope, the risk of earthquake induced landslides is medium

The earthquake happened in Papua New Guinea , Morobe Province (population: 390000). The nearest populated places are Kembakn (20km), Kudjeru (4km), Were Were (13km), Winima (12km), Kaisenik (15km), Kwembu (16km).
It is a mountainous region with a maximum altitude of 3572 m.

Lae (Papua New Guinea): As soon aS the earthquake started, we also got confirmation from friends and families in Port Moresby and up in Goroka that they had also felt this earthquake. This is the 1st time I've head of one earthquake beign felt in different provinces in PNG.

People of Wau (Pop. 15,000), Papua New Guinea will experience strongest jolt of MMI VII. Heavy damage is expected in this region.

M 7.3 massive earthquake stuck Eastern Papua New Guinea region, papua New Guinea today. Luckily, the earthquake is recorded at great depth of 115 km. Following USGS preliminary data, the epicenter of this earthquake is located
89 km (55 miles) SSW of Lae, New Guinea, PNG
123 km (76 miles) ENE of Kerema, New Guinea, PNG
221 km (137 miles) NNW of PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea
2308 km (1434 miles) NNW of BRISBANE, Queensland, Australia
