Recent Earthquakes
  • Magnitude 4.2 shallow earthquake (9.9 km depth) in Vancouver Island, Canada with epicenter located in NP ocean,167 km (103 miles) W of Port Hardy, British Columbia, Canada. It is faintly felt as far as Vancouver City.

  • Magnitude 6.1 very strong earthquake in Honshu, Japan with epicenter located 33 km E Namie (pop 21,866), Japan and 58 km NE Iwaki (pop 357,309), Japan. 49,000 people will experience a strong shaking of MMI VI. People of Namie will feel a strong jolt. The epicenter is in the Sea water which reduces its shaking effect to some extent. It will be even felt in Capital Tokyo.

    Shinjuku:
    Being some 247 km's distance form the epicenter, this seemed like a fairly powerful earthquake but it never felt threatening ... pretty good sustained shaking, however, and strong enough to wake me up ... trust and hope there was no harm inflicted on anyone closer to the quake's epicenter, greetings from the 22nd floor of the HIlton Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
  • Magnitude 5.3 moderate earthquake (@10 km depth) in Crete, Greece with epicenter located 109 km SW Ierapetra (pop 12,536), Greece and 127 km S Iraklion (pop 137,154), Greece. The earlier was of M 5.2 strong Earthquake in Patras, Greece No damage expected from this earthquake as epicenter is in the Sea Water and the populated area is at a safe distance.

    Gazi: door kept swaying for some time
    Arkadi: I was sat reading on a metal framed, cushioned chair; my ears popped and my stomach flipped (as if I had just driven over a hump-backed bridge); there was at the same time a bang, but as we live near a woodyard, I thought it was from there.  As I type, I can feel jelly like movements coming through - but nothing that disturbs the house.
    UPDATE
    Another aftershocks of M 4.8 in Crete, Greece (@ 60 km depth) closer to populated area than earlier. The epicenter is 97 km S Iraklion (pop 137,154), Greece.

  •  Magnitude 3.4 very shallow earthquake (@ 1 km depth) in Northern Algeria with epicenter just below Duwirah (pop 26,926), Algeria. It is well felt above the epicenter area and as far as Baraqi (pop 105,402), Algeria which is just 11 km far from epicenter.

  • Magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Antofagasta, Chile with epicenter located 105 km SE Calama (pop 143,084). Weak shaking will be felt around epicenter due to its great depth.

  • Kenneth 11 with active storm having current maximum sustained wind speed 23 m/s. It is far away from Land.
  • Sean-11 with active storm having current maximum sustained wind speed 17 m/s. Green Alert for Bermuda.
    Disaster Note
    : Tropical storm Sean 11 has affected 66 thousand people with winds above 39mph.In addition, few people are living in coastal areas below 5m and can therefore be affected by storm surge.

Recent Snow Storm

  • Heavy Snow is reported in Squamish, Canada. Official has issued severe weather warnings across the province from Victoria to Revelstoke of Canada. It first passed through Metro Vancouver causing heavy rain and wind.

Recent Floods

  • Thailand Flood- Death Toll At 610

  • Orange Flood Alert In Cambodia. The flood which started with Tropical Storm, Monsoonal Rain about three months has killed 264 people till date. Approximately 13466.62 km2 area has been affected by the flood. GDACS has given this flood a severity class 2.
  • Flood in Columbia has killed 48 people and displaced 55 people within a week. People were evacuated from Manizales, Caldas region.
  • Flood in Kenya has killed 4 people till today. The flood which started a week ago has affected 41010.11 km2 area.
  • Flood in Philippines has displaced 30000 people. However no fatality is reported. Flood is still active in Boyugan East, Gawil, Poblacion and Sicade area.

Recent Landslides

  • Landslide in Malaysia which is caused due to heavy monsoon. Now Malaysia is in High Alert for Landslides. Government is creating awareness about it by publishing notices teaching about different signs and symbols used during the disasters to be safe. Heavy damage is expected. However its too early to get any damage reports.

Recent Volcanoes
 
  • Volcanic Eruption On Hierro Canary Islands located in Spain. During 2-8 November, 364 seismic events were recorded at depths of 16-23 km. During 4-5 November authorities evacuated about 80 residents from areas in Frontera due to landslide risks. Hierro contains the greatest concentration of young vents in the Canary Islands. Some days earlier, the toxic gases get mixed in the air.Yesterday M 3.3 earthquake stuck  in the Canary island area.It seems that new vents are opening up off the south coast of El Hierro volcano.

  • Volcanic Eruption On Nyamuragira Democratic Republic of Congo. It is the Africa's most active volcano. Eruption still continues here in Nyamuragira.  video of eruption in Nyamuragira which shows it to be still active.However, The city of Goma, near the volcano, remains unaffected.
    The lava on Mount Nyamulagira in Congo spurted up to 300 meters high. Meanwhile Virunga Park, best known for its endangered mountain gorillas, is now inviting tourists to go on overnight treks to see a volcano spurting fountains of lava.
    UPDATE
    Lava flow have reached within 5 km of Kalengera-Tongo road. It is the area of Gorillas but they are far to be affected
