INDIA: Flash floods in Tripura kill six, displace 18,000

May 21, 2018: Six people died and almost 18,000 have been living in relief camps after flash floods triggered mudslides in Tripura.  "Parts of the state capital Agartala and outskirts of West Tripura, Khowai, Gomati and Sepahijala districts have been submerged," The Hindustan Times reported quoting he state emergency operation centre.

Recent floods in Mogadishu, Somalia kill 6

May 22, 2018: At least six people died and hundreds of homes destroyed following heavy rainfall and flooding in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somali. The flooding in Mogadishu destroyed at least 301 house with an estimated $35 million in losses, Anadolu Agency reported quoting Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow, the city’s mayor. The rainfall was the heaviest Somalia has seen in over 30 years, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Earthquake tremor felt in Port Royal, Jamaica?

Update No seismometer has recorded any signs of an earthquake striking the Port Royal, Jamaica. In most of the cases, tremors are even caused by localized minor land disturbances and are not likely to cause any severe impacts. May 22, 2018: An earthquake tremor has been across Port Royal, Jamaica today. Thousands of people from Port Royal have been reporting of an earthquake felt in the region. However, no seismological centers have mentioned about the earthquake in Port Royal till 02:00 UTC. Did you feel the earthquake? Kindly mention in the comment section below. We will update once the official news comes out.  An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 rattled Port Royal, Jamaica in 1692. The earthquake triggered Tsunami and caused most of the city to sink below sea level. Around 5,000 people were died in the disaster.

IMD issues advisory to Maharashtra over Cyclone Sagar

May 19, 2018: The India Meteorological Department has issued advisory to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Lakshadweep over Cyclone Sagar. The cyclonic storm Sagar lay centred over the Gulf of Aden, about 390 km east-northeast of Yemen's Aden city and 560 km west-northwest of Socotra Islands. According to the Advisory, the cyclone Sagar is very likely to intensify further slightly during the next 12 hours and continue to move westwards for some more time and then move west-southwestwards thereafter. The northern part of Sagar brought heavy rain and some minor flooding to coastal towns of Yemen. Sagar brought heavy rainfall to coastal areas in Yemen's Hadramawt and Mahra provinces and Socotra Island. Cyclone Sagar expected to make a landfall by today evening over Somalia coast.
