Michigan statewide tornado drill today: March 25, 2020

March 25, 2020: As a part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the state of Michigan is conducting its statewide tornado drill today afternoon at 1 PM. Apart from the sirens, the alerts will also be send on the weather radio and other devices that receive emergency alerts.   According to Michigan State Police, many counties have canceled their tests for tornado drill today. Many counties aren't testing its emergency alert system due to the ongoing state of emergency in the community. Due to the concerns and anxiety with COVID-19, the counties have cancelled plans to test the tornado drill scheduled for today.

Magna, Utah Earthquake: Buildings damaged, dozens of aftershocks recorded

Magna, Utah earthquake epicenter map (USGS) March 18, 2020: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States today, with an epicenter located 6 km north-northeast of Magna, Utah. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake today in Magna, Utah occurred at 11.9 km depth. Over than 50 aftershocks have been recorded within two hours of the main earthquake. The earthquake caused power outages near Salt Lake City International Airport. The control tower was immediately evacuated and passengers in terminals were moved onto buses. Utah Emergency Management said that no serious damage is expected from the Magna earthquake. The minor damage has been occurred to historic Rio Grande Depot and St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. March 6, 2020: An earthquake of 5.5 in magnitude has been felt in Yuma, Arizona today. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred in the town of Doctor Alberto Oviedo Mota in Baja, California. The quake's epicenter was located about 67 miles south of Yuma in the Mexican state of Baja California. The Yuma Fire Department tweeted that there is no damage caused by the today's earthquake.

Castaic earthquake today measures 3.5 in magnitude

February 21, 2020: Magnitude 3.5 light earthquake has been recorded in Castaic today, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. According to the USGS, the quake's epicenter was located 2 km NNW of Castaic, California . The earthquake occurred at 17 km depth. Weak intensity of MMI III have been felt by the people of Castaic, Valencia, Santa Clarita, Stevenson Ranch, Newhall and Chatsworth, CA. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.

Magnitude 2.8 earthquake in Dyersburg, TN today

February 4, 2020: Magnitude 2.8 earthquake has been recorded in Tennessee today with epicenter located 9 km NNW of Dyersburg. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 11.7 km depth. Weak tremor of intensity III was felt by the people of Dyersburg, Newbern and Finley. No preliminary damage or injuries reported from the earthquake in Dyersburg, TN.

Magnitude 3.6 earthquake in Anza, California today

February 2, 2020: Magnitude 3.6 light earthquake has been recorded in Anza, California today at 04:59 pm, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. According to the USGS, the quake's epicenter was located 13km W of Anza, CA. The earthquake in Anza today occurred at 4.7 km depth. Weak intensity of MMI III was felt in the neighouring areas of Anza. The tremor was felt in Aguanga, Hemet, Anza, Temecula, Idyllwild, Winchester, San Jacinto and Pala. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported from this earthquake.

RUMOR spreads about 4.1 magnitude earthquake in Dover, Delaware today

January 13, 2020: A news became viral about 4.1 magnitude earthquake near Dover, Delaware at about 4:47pm today. People were surprised to read the news as they didn't feel any tremor in Delaware today. The earthquake news is just a rumor and viral hoax . The news claimed that the earthquake was felt along the U.S. East Coast from Massachusetts to central Virginia, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. We found that the earthquake news that went viral today was pulled from a post back in November 2017. This was actually an old post of the earthquake being shared online that rattled Delaware in November 2017. But people started sharing the earthquake news without looking the mentioned date.  We even confirmed with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) that there was no earthquake recorded in Dover, Delaware today. Storm damage in Louisiana today: Three killed and damage from Texas to Tennessee

January 11, 2020:  Severe storm in Louisiana has claimed lives of three people and caused damage from Texas to Tennessee. Two people died in a storm near Haughton when their mobile home was destroyed. Third person died when a tree fell on the house in Oil City. In Arkansas and Missouri, tornadoes destroyed homes and also caused damage in Oklahoma. A tornado destroyed two homes near Fair Play, Missouri, about 56 km northwest of Springfield. According to the Logan County Emergency Management, at least three homes were destroyed by the tornado in Arkansas. Shishaldin volcano eruption in Alaska prompts RED ALERT

January 8, 2020:  The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) has upgraded the aviation color code to red and alert level to warning after eruption occurred at Shishaldin volcano on January 7, 2020. The Alaska Volcano Observatory reported that ash was blowing up to 27,000 feet in the air in the volcanic eruption that started around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.  According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, volcanic lighting was detected in the cloud and volcanic infrasound was detected at regional stations. The National Weather Service has issued an aviation advisory for the area. Shishaldin volcano, located near the center of Unimak Island in the eastern Aleutian Islands, is a spectacular symmetric cone with a base diameter of approximately 16 km (10 mi). Most eruptions are relatively small, although the April-May 1999 event generated an ash column that reached 45,000 ft above sea level, the U.S. Geological Survey’s Alaska Volcano Observatory mentioned in its website.
