SOMALIA: Tropical storm Pawan kills six

December 15, 2019: At least six people have been killed after a tropical storm named Pawan made landfall in northern Somalia . According to the UN humanitarian agency, tropical storm Pawan made landfall on December 6, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds and flash floods in parts of Bari and Nugaal regions of Puntland. Eyl, Bandarbayla, Caluula and Laasqoray districts are severely affected by the tropical storm Pawan.

Flooding in Somalia kills 10, displaces 270,000

November 1, 2019:  Recent flooding in Somalia has claimed lives of 10 people and displaced more than 270,000, the United Nations said. A boat capsized and claimed lives of 10 people when a river overflowed in Beledweyne town of central Somalia. Rain and floods are forecast to continue for November.

Recent floods in Mogadishu, Somalia kill 6

May 22, 2018: At least six people died and hundreds of homes destroyed following heavy rainfall and flooding in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somali. The flooding in Mogadishu destroyed at least 301 house with an estimated $35 million in losses, Anadolu Agency reported quoting Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow, the city’s mayor. The rainfall was the heaviest Somalia has seen in over 30 years, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Somalia storm kills 100, natural disaster emergency declared

At least 100 people have been died over the weekend by a tropical cyclone 3A in Puntland region of Somalia. A heavy storm hit Bandarbeyle and Eyl towns on Saturday and Sunday causing heavy flooding in the area. Government has declared a natural disaster emergency and has set up an emergency and rescue committee in response to the tragedy. Cape Guardufui in northeastern Puntland and the town of Eyl are believed to be worst hit areas. Cyclones are unusual in Somalia. Flash floods in Somalia kill 7 children

Recent flash floods in Somalia have killed seven children and displaced 50,000 others, the UN says. Following UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Somalia Public information, Baidoa, Jowhar, Miido and Lower Shebelle areas of southern Somalia are worse affected by recent floods. Flash foods have also made thousands homeless in Middle Shebelle areas of southern Somalia, Xinhua reports. Different humanitarian organizations have send flood aid in Somalia.
