Davao earthquake October 16, 2019: One dead, dozens injured in Philippines

According to the ABS-CBN television network, a girl was hit by collapsed wall in a house and died in Datu Paglas town in Maguindanao province. The epicenter was located 23 kilometers southwest of Makilala town in North Cotabato. More than 20 people were injured in Magsaysay town in Davao del Sur province of Philippines. Local officials have called off classes in  the cities of Davao, Cotabato and Cotabato province to allow engineers to check the integrity of building structures,  Inquirer reported. "All classes in public and private schools in Davao City from kindergarten to post-graduate studies are hereby suspended tomorrow, Thursday,” Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said in a statement. Philippines: Magnitude 5.2 earthquake rattles Calayan, Cagayan

May 12, 2019: An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 rattles Calayan town in Cagayan on Sunday afternoon. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the earthquake was followed by a magnitude 4.4 aftershock. The magnitude 5.2 earthquake occurred at 4:59 p.m with its epicenter at 87 km northwest of Calayan, Cagayan. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 20 km.  An hour later, 4.4 magnitude aftershock was also felt in Calayan town in Cagayan, Philippines .

Tremor felt after M4.0 earthquake today in Iloilo city: PHIVOLCS

March 22, 2019: Magnitude 4.0 light earthquake in Philippines triggered tremor in Iloilo today, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported. According to PHIVOLCS, Light intensity III have been felt in Buenavista, Guimaras, Iloilo. No damage or aftershocks have been expected from the earthquake today in Iloilo city.

Magnitude 6.2 earthquake in Surigao del norte today

March 8, 2019: Magnitude 6.2 strong earthquake rattled Surigao Del Norte today at 11:00 pm, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported. According to the (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake was of tectonic origin and occured a depth of 16 kilometers with epicenter north of Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte and east of Dinagat Island. No damage or injuries have been reported. January 16, 2018: Rain-induced landslides in Tacloban City of Philippines have claimed lives of four people. The northeast monsoon is affecting Northern and Central Luzon, while the tail-end of a cold front is affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon, PAGASA said.

7.2 earthquake today in Sarangani triggers tsunami warning

April 29, 2017: A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.2 occurred 53 km SW of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 04:23 am Philippine Standard Time (PST) prompting Tsunami warning in different countries. "Waves reaching up to 1 meter above normal tide levels are possible in the Philippines, while some coastlines in Indonesia, Malaysia and Palau could expect waves up to 30 centimeters higher than usual," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

April 8, 2017: Four earthquakes rattle Mabini, Batangas, Philippines

April 8, 2017: Four strong earthquakes, including one measuring magnitude 6, rattled Batangas province located in the Calabarzon region in Luzon, Philippines.  According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the first tremor of magnitude 5.6 struck at 3:07 p.m. with epicenter located two kilometers northwest of Mabini, Batangas. It was followed by magnitude 6 earthquake at 12 km northwest of Mabini, two minutes later.

State of calamity declared as floods kill 6 in Davao, Philippines

January 25, 2017: Flooding triggered by heavy downpour has claimed lives of six people in Davao region of Philippines.  Kapalong, Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali, Carmen, and New Corella municipalities have been placed under state of calamity. According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Compostela Valley, floods have affected a total of 2,219 families.

Super Typhoon Haima kills 12 in Philippines, targets Hongkong

Super Typhoon Haima (Super Typhoon Lawin in Philippines) claimed lives off at least 12 people in Philippines. Eight of the victims are from the Cordillera region, Reuters reported quoting Ricardo Jalad, chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Haima made landfall over Peñablanca, Cagayan of the Philippines at 15:00 UTC on October 19, 2016. Two days later, Haima made landfall over Haifeng County, Shanwei in the Guangdong province of China.

Super Typhoon Meranti (Typhoon Ferdie in Philippines) is the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide in 2016 and is one of three most powerful typhoons ever recorded. Super Typhoon Meranti made landfall early on Thursday near Xiamen in Fujian Province of China. 

Magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattles Cebu today

Magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattled Cebu today at 02:52 pm, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported. According to PHIVOLCS Earthquake Bulletin, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 7 km. The epicenter was located 8 km SW of Carmen. Tremor was well felt by the people of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City. No damage or aftershocks are expected.

Mount Bulusan volcano spews ash in Philippines: PHIVOLCS

Mt. Bulusan Volcano in Philippines spewed a grayish steam and an ash column reaching 500 meters on 22th February 2016, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.  According to Bulusan Volcano advisory issued at 06:00 pm, ashfall was reported in the towns of Juban and Irosin. Atleast two successive minor eruptions occurred at the west-northwest fissure of Bulusan Volcano summit around 5:01 pm.

Typhoon Melor 2015 keeps Philippines on alert

Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated as Typhoon Melor (known locally as Nona) made landfall around 11 a.m. over Batag, Northern Samar.  According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Typhoon Melor is expected to cause flooding, landslides and storm surges of up to four metres.

Kanlaon volcano in Philippines erupts, enters period of unrest

The event was recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano seismic network as an explosion signal beginning at 9:30 P.M. on November 23 and lasted 30 minutes. 

Cebu earthquake today measures 4.0 in magnitude

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook Cebu at 04:36 pm Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. According to Philvolcs, the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded in Sagbayan. The tremor was felt at Intensity IV in Talibon, Intensity III in Sagbayan and Inabanga, and Intensity II in San Miguel and Cebu City. No damage or injuries have been reported.

Typhoon Koppu (local name: Typhoon Lando) has claimed lives of at least 18 people and injured 16 others in Philippines as of October 20, 2015. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, one person is reported to be missing.

Typhoon Goni kills 4 in Philippines' Luzon Island

Typhoon Goni (Typhoon Ineng in Philippines) has claimed lives of at least four people in Luzon Island of Philippines on Friday. Three people died of landslide and another man died after being pinned by a tree, The Associated Press reported.

Lanao del Norte province of Philippines under “preparedness status" — Flash flood affects 130 families

The Lanao del Norte province of Philippines has been placed under “preparedness status" as flash floods affected 130 families. Lanao del Norte Governor Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo has issued Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Advisory No. 2 to the entire province. Under the state of preparedness status, provincial, municipal and barangay DRRMC shall sustain the 24-hour operation centers in their respective areas.
