Almaty hit by mud flows (Tengri News) Glacial melt has triggered flooding in Almaty, Kazakhstan leading to evacuation of around 950 people, Officials said. Glacial melt sent an unusually high amount of water mixed with boulders, KWTX-TV News reported quoting the Interior Ministry.

Recent floods in Karaganda Oblast in Kazakhstan have affected 1,760 houses in 35 villages, Tengrinews reported quoting the Oblast's Department of Emergency Situations. Sharp rise in temperature caused melting of snow and triggered flooding in Semey and Ayagoz districts in Kazakhstan.

Two moderate earthquakes struck  Kazakhstan's largest city Almaty today, the Kazakhstan National Data Center, Institute of Geophysical Research reported. According to the Kazakhstan National Data Center, the quake epicenters were located in Lake Issyk-kul region. Both quakes were recorded within seconds with magnitude 5.0 and 5.1 in the same area. The epicenter of the earthquakes were 28 km to the south of Almaty on the border with Kyrgyzstan.

There are 19,0000 people within 100 km radius. The nearest places are and Imeni Stalina. Aftershocks are expected.
