Violent hailstorm in Bulgaria's capital Sofia kills 1, injures 40

A severe hailstorm in Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia has claimed life of a 70-year-old pedestrian and injured 40 others, The Sofia News Agency reported. The storm knocked down a tree on the pedestrian in the park Borisova Gradina. Injured people are having treatment in the emergency center of the Pirogov hospital. According to the Sofia News Agency, the central district of Stochna Gara has been flooded and traffic there has been completely blocked. Many buildings have been flooded, including the Sofia Emergency care main building. Hundreds of owners of damaged cars have been queuing for hail storm insurance claims, The Sofia News Agency added. Rains, hailstorm in Maharashtra kill 2

Heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms have claimed lives of at least two people in Maharashtra, India. Hailstorms in Gherbi village in Solapur district also caused huge damage to property. Four killed as freak hailstorm rains hit Marathwada, India

At least four people have been killed when heavy rains accompanied with hailstorm and winds hit several parts of Marathwada region of India. Fatalities are from Jalna, Osmanabad, Beed and Aurangabad districts. Twelve school students from Soygaon tehsil's Jamthi village have also been injured while returning from school to Rachala village, Web India News reported. Hail storm, tornado in Canterbury damage houses

Hail storm and tornado that swept through Amberley in north Christchurch have damaged at least three houses. Lightning strikes have caused a small fire in Halswell. Hailstorm in Bogra, Bangladesh injures 6

At least six people have been injured in hailstorm in Sherpur, Bogra this Sunday afternoon. Hailstorm also suspended traffic on the Dhaka-Dinajpur Highway for nearly half an hour, Dhaka Tribune reported. Bogra is one of the oldest towns in northern Bangladesh. Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm. Lightning, hail storm in Cebu claim 2 lives

Lightning and hailstorm in Cebu province of Philippines have claimed lives of at least two persons. Lightning in Toledo City of Cebu killed two person. Similarly hailstorm in Pinamungajan damaged at least two houses. The hailstorm hit barangays Binabag, Poblacion and Pandacan around 1:40 p.m. This is the second hailstorm in Pinamungajan this year. China hailstorm 2013 leaves 6 dead

Hailstorms in eastern China have claimed lives of at least six people and injured three, Xinhua News reported. Hailstorm hit Dangshan and Xiaoxian counties in Anhui province of China Friday morning. Hailstorm hits Aragatsotn, Armenia

Hailstorms in Nigavan, Lusagyugh, Saralanj and Aparan area of Aragatsotn province of Armenia lasted for 15 minutes. Armenia hailstorm damage is being assessed, Ministry of Emergency Situations said. Germany Hailstorm: Wassel hit by Giant hailstones (Video)

A severe hailstorm hit German village of Wassel in Sehnte Saturday evening. German hailstones were the size of tennis balls. Hailstones damaged roofs, windows and several vehicles, local medias reported. The most catastrophic hailstorm in Europe struck Munich, Germany on July 12, 1984. Germany hailstorm damaged some 70,000 homes and injured 400 people. Germany hailstorm damage was estimated at over US$2 billion. Hailstorms cause havoc in 8 villages in Georgia

Wild hailstorms have caused heavy damage to agricultural crops in eight villages in Akhmeta in Kakheti region of eastern Georgia. Hailstorm damage have been found extensive in Ashkhnis Velebi, Akhshani, Arashenda, Chabinaani, Khorkheli, Zemo Khodasheni, Ozhio and Atskhuri, Democracy & Freedom Watch has written quoting Kakheti Information Center. The hailstorms which lasted for 20 minutes have damaged 80 percent of vineyards in Akhmeta, local government official said. Detail hail storm damage report is yet to come. Météo France puts Paris and south-western France on storm alert

Météo France has put 19 departments in the Ile De France region and south-western France on Orange alert for storms. Météo France has predicted very violent locally with a risk of gales and hail stones. Winds could reach 80kph and hailstones as big as 3cm. Fire fighters have already received hundreds of calls of basement flooding, uprooted trees and damaged roofs this morning. Earlier hail storms hit Tours to the South West of Paris. Hailstorm, Cyclone hits Vietnam

Hailstorm and cyclone in Cao Lanh city in Dong Thap province of Vietnam have caused huge damage, Xinhua reported. One hour disaster has blown away roofs of houses and knock down electric poles. Poland hailstorm damages 50 houses

Recent hailstorm in Poland's city of Radom has damaged more than fifty houses, Polskie Radio reported. Strong gale followed by huge hailstorm damaged houses, downed power lines and trees. Severe storm also hit Baltic coast of Pomeranian region. Firemen were busy to address 340 separate incidents of severe weather across Poland. Hailstorm in India's Sheikhpura claims 3

Mild thunderstorm accompanied by hailstorm in Sheikhpura district of India have claimed lives of at least three people and injured 100 others, Times Of India reports. Hailstorm hit a religious function at village Pinjuri under Sheikhpura Town. Over 1000 people had gathered to celebrate the festival. Heavy thunderstorms have also been reported in Purnia and Kishanganj districts of Muzaffarpur. About 6.6mm rainfall has been recorded on Sunday in Patna, Met Office says. Severe weather is also expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. Hailstorm in Nepal's central region destroys crops

Heavy hailstorm in Nepal's central region of Nuwakot and Rasuwa caused huge damage to agricultural crops and properties, Nepal based Himalayan Times reports. Heavy storm blew away roofs of Bigyan Higher Secondary School and Ayurved Office in Narjamandap, Nuwakot. All classes have been suspended in the school. Storm also knocked several power lines in the area. Hail storm damage is worst in Laharepauwa, Kalikasthan, Haku, and Dhunche area of Rasuwa. Hail storm damage is expected to be Rs. four million in Sindhupalchowk district alone. The Kathmandu Stadium Disaster in 1988 claimed 93 lives. Hail, flooding in Temple, Texas

Storms caused heavy rain, hail and street flooding in Temple area of Texas, KwTx reports. Storm downed several trees near Ferguson Park in Temple. The storm produced one-inch hail in eastern Temple and 1.75-inch hail on the northeast side of Temple. Below is a photo of hail in Ferguson Park in Temple (Adam Cuker, Vortex Chasers). Wind gust of 72-mile-per-hour was recorded in southwest Temple. Following Temple Fire & Rescue official, a power line down at the Taco Bell at 31st Street and HK Dodgen Loop caused fire on a tree. Power outages were reported in thousand of houses in the Temple area. 1995 Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas hail storm damage cost around $2 billion with $1.1 billion storm insurance coverage. Hailstorms damage over 200 asbestos homes in Mizoram, India

Hailstorms have damaged over 200 houses with tin- roofed and asbestos walls in Mizoram, India, NDTV reports. Hailstorms hit different areas of Kolasib district in Mizoram. Hailstorm damaged Sixty-three houses in Kolasib town and hundred houses in Thingdawl village. Hailstorm damaged further 40 houses in Bukpui village and three in Sethawn village. Most of the damaged houses have tin- roofed and asbestos walls. Landslide caused by heavy rainfall has also blocked roads in Kolasib town.
