$7.5 million FEMA preparedness grants awarded to fire departments

More than $7.5 million preparedness grants have been awarded to the fire departments in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Federal Emergency Management Agency grants will be used by fire departments to boost hiring efforts for firefighters and for recruitment and retention, FEMA news release mentioned. Federal Emergency Management Agency: Disaster assistance to New Jersey survivors of Superstorm Sandy

A total of $5.5 billion federal assistance has been made to New Jersey survivors of Superstorm Sandy till now, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said in its news release on August 12, 2013. According to FEMA, total of $3.5 billion National Flood Insurance Program payments have been made till date. Other includes FEMA grants, SBA disaster loans and FEMA Public Assistance grants. Within this period, 261,883 people have contacted FEMA for help or information. The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have encourage all businesses to prepare for future severe weather events. Hurricane Sandy in 2012 had claimed lives of at least 286 people. Hurricane Sandy was the second-costliest hurricane in US history. Federal Emergency Management Agency: Federal aid accepted for the Falls Fire in Riverside County

A request submitted by the state of California for federal aid regarding the Falls Fire in Riverside County has been approved, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said. Currents FEMA Funding means that 75 percent of firefighting costs are eligible for reimbursement through FEMA. The state of California had submitted a request for a fire management assistance declaration for the Falls Fire two days ago.
