Kootenay Pass Avalanche kills 1

An avalanche in Kootenay Pass area of Canada has claimed life of a person and seriously injured a woman, CBC News reported. Avalanche occurred at Twin Lakes near Stagleap Provincial Park. Kootenay Pass avalanche conditions were observed by a team of about 26 search and rescue members. The Canadian Avalanche Centre had issued a special avalanche warning for BC. Quebec, Canada earthquake shakes Hemmingford and Sherington

M 3.1 earthquake shakes Quebec region, Natural Resource Canada reported. According to the Natural Resource Canada, the quake's epicenter was located 43 km ESE of Valleyfield and 46 km S of Montreal, QC. Earthquake was felt at Hemmingford and Sherington, QC. There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected, Natural Resource Canada mentioned in its website. Toronto ice storm 2013: Nearly 500,000 without electricity

Heavy ice storms in Canada have left nearly 500,000 people without electricity including 300,000 in Toronto alone. Some 200 flights have been cancelled at Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Sunday. It is expected to take up to three days to restore power to all customers in Toronto. Storm damage in Montreal, Canada

Storms over Quebec have caused damage in Montreal and the surrounding area. Strong storm also downed dozens of trees and 15 hydro poles in the town of Saint Anicet, Montreal News reported. According to the Hydro Quebec, around 4,000 households have lost power due to the storm. Heavy rainfall also flooded the Atwater Tunnel. Original post: Natural Disasters List September 12, 2013

Storms in Quebec, Ontario kills 1, injures 2

Storms in Ontario and Quebec region of Central Canada have claimed life of a woman and injured two others, CBC News Canada reported. A 21-year-old woman was struck by a falling tree branch at pool in Boucherville, Quebec. Others two were also injured including a a 6-year-old boy. Toronto flooding 2013 (pictures, videos)

Storm has caused heavy rains, power outages and flash flooding in Toronto, Canada. More than 90 mm of rainfall, more than a month's average, has been recorded in Toronto. A flood warning has been issued for Toronto rivers. Porter Airlines has cancelled all flights to and from Toronto due to the severe weather. Toronto flooding has also shut down the Don Valley Parkway.  According to Toronto Hydro, about 300,000 residents are without power across the Greater Toronto Area. Environment Canada confirms tornado in southwest Saskatchewan

Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado in southwest Saskatchewan. According to Environment Canada, tornado hit near the communities of Dollard and Shaunavon on Thursday evening. Tornado knocked down trees but no injury has been reported. Emergency workers have already engaged in disaster cleanup. Environment Canada had issued thunderstorm warning for the region. Poor air quality index in Ottawa, Smog advisory issued

A smog advisory has been issued by Ontario Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment following the high amount of pollution in Ottawa. Smog advisory was issued for most of eastern Ontarion including Ottawa, CBC News reported. Forest fire smoke from Quebec decreased the air quality index. Environment Canada has also urged people not to use gas powered motors, aerosol sprays and solvents. Calgary flood 2013 (updates, pictures, videos)

Update 23:50 UTC -According to the Police, at least four people have died in Calgary flooding . Body was found in High River, located about 60 km south of Calgary. -Around 100,000 people of Calgary have been ordered to leave the area. -More than 100 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in some parts of southern Alberta in just two days. Environment Canada confirms EF2 tornado in Ontario

Environment Canada has confirmed that an EF2 tornado touched down in Glenarm, 12 km west of Fenelon Falls. EF2 tornado had wind speeds between 180 and 200 km/hour. Strong storms have damaged roofs of several houses. Earlier an EF1 tornado touched down in Canada on April 18, 2013 . There is need of better tornado warning system in Ontario, Huffington Post Canada writes quoting local residents. Ottawa earthquake 2013: Canada earthquake shakes Northern US

Update 14:35 UTC -Tremors were felt widely in southeastern Ontario from London to Montreal and much of New York and Vermont in the United States, USGS reports. -Following Natural Resources Canada, approximately 450 earthquakes hit eastern Canada each year. Update 14:20 UTC -Earthquake Canada reports magnitude 4.8 centred northwest of Arnprior, in the Braeside area. -The quake has occurred in the Western Quebec seismic zone.The urban areas of Montreal, Ottawa-Hull and Cornwall are located in this zone. Extensive ice storm at Ochre Beach on Dauphin Lake in Manitoba, Canada has damaged at least 20 houses. A state of emergency has been declared in the Rural Municipality of Ochre River, Canada based CTV reports. Moosonee, Canada flooding evacuates 200 plus

More than 200 Canadians have been evacuated after flooding in northern Ontario town of Moosonee. Following Emergency Management Ontario, evacuation first started Friday night from Moosonee to Sudbury. An emergency has been declared in Kashechewan First Nation. Natural Disaster: Avalanche in Canada's Glacier National Park claims 1

An avalanche in Canada's Glacier National Park near Revelstoke has claimed life of one skier. Group of three skier were in a trek in Revelstoke in British Columbia. Two others managed to escape the disaster. Canadian Avalanche Centre has rated this avalanche 2.5 (from 1 to 5).
