Flash flooding in Sentani, Indonesia kills 77

March 18, 2019: At least 77 people have been killed following a flash flood in Sentani, Jayapura, Indonesia.

The flash flood occurred after seven-hour torrential downpour.

Flash flood has affected 11,725 families in Papua, The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) reported.

Around 350 houses have been badly destroyed and 211 others in BTN Bintang Timur Sentani are still inundated.

The flooding mostly struck the Sentani Kota district, affecting Sentani Kota, Hinekombe and Dobonsolo subdistricts and five villages, Kampung Sereh, Yoboy, Yahim, Yobeh and Ifar Besar, The Jakarta Post reported.
