M6.6 earthquake today in Tottori, Japan injures 17

October 21, 2016: A very strong earthquake of magnitude 6.6 rattled Kurayoshi, Tottori Prefecture of western Japan at 2:07 p.m. Friday afternoon.

At least seventeen people have been injured. Injuries have been reported from Tottori Prefecture, Okayama, Hyogo and neighboring prefectures, Kyodo News reported quoting the Fire and Disaster Management Agency and prefectural governments.

The tremor was well felt in Yonago, Tsuyama, Izumo, Toyooka, Hiroshima-shi, Osaka-shi, Kobe-shi and Kyoto.

Around 77,000 households in Tottori and Okayama prefectures were temporarily left without power.

West Japan Railway Company also temporarily suspended all services on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line between Shin-Osaka and Hakata stations.

No tsunami warning was issued.
