  • Flooding in Pemba, Mozambique
    -Flooding triggered by heavy rainfall has claimed lives of at least three people in Pemba in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

  • M 5.8 strong earthquake in Tonga (@ 233 km depth) with epicenter located 149 km NW of Hihifo. Slight tremor will have been felt by the people of Mata-Utu, Apia, Tafuna and Pago Pago, American Samoa.

  • M 3.0 weak earthquake in Alaska (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 9 km NNE of Badger. Weak tremor will have been felt by the people of Fairbanks and College.

  • Flood watch in Canberra, Canada
    -Flood watch has been issued for Queanbeyan and Molonglo rivers in Canberra.
    -According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), a strong southerly change moving up the New South Wales south coast could trigger anywhere between five and 50 millimetres of rain in the Canberra region.

  • Tropical Storm Alex
    -Subtropical Storm Alex, in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, south-southwest of the Azores, is only the 2nd tropical storm to form in January since 1851.
    -Alex formed from a system that first developed in the warm waters off the east coast of Florida last week and has tracked eastward across the ocean, gradually becoming stronger and more organized.

Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm. Q: The tremors of earthquake were felt at intervals of 15 seconds. The first tremor was felt at 8:54:57 and last tremor was felt at 10:45:12. How many times were the tremors felt? A: The answer is 441 Difference of times = 10:45:12 - 8:54:57 = 9:104:72 - 8:54:57 = 1:50 :15 = 3600 + 3000 + 15 = 6615 seconds. Now, 6615/15 = 441 Still confused?
