  • Powerful storm in Bangladesh
    -A powerful storm in seven Upazilas of Mymensingh and Kishoreganj districts of Bangladesh has claimed lives of at least eight people and left hundreds of houses damaged.

  • Landslide in Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh
    -A landslide on the bank of the Padma River in Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh has claimed lives of two people.

    -About 200 people have been evacuated due to flooding risk in Perth-Andover region.
    -A state of local emergency has also been declared until further notice, CBC News reported.

    -The risk of an eruption at Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano has increased, after a series of earthquakes.

INDIA: Chamoli glacial outburst flood kills 26, leaves 200 missing

February 8, 2021: A glacial outburst flood in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand region of India has claimed lives of 26 people and left around 200 people missing. The flooding occurred after a portion of the Nanda Devi glacier broke off early on 7th of February. The flood damaged the Rishiganga dam on Alaknanda river. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Army have been involved for the rescue operation. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has announced Rs 4 lakh financial assistance each for the families of those killed in the disaster.
