    -    More than 200 Canadians have been evacuated after flooding in northern Ontario town of Moosonee.

  • M 4.4 light earthquake in Jalisco, Mexico (@ 36 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km NE of Tomatlan. Light  to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa and El Salto. Click for detail report on Puerto Vallarta earthquake.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Angola (Cotundo), Australia, Bolivia, Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (Rio Juruena, Araquaia, Purus, Tocantins), China (Mekong, Xi Jiang, Brahmaputra, Yangtze, Indus), Colombia (Rio Negro), Honduras, Iraq (Shatt al Arab), Kenya, Mozambique (Chire), Pakistan (Indus), Peru (Ucayali, Rio Maraon), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile), United States (Mississippi, Arkansas), Vietnam, Zambia (Zambezi, Likando).
  • Flash floods in Gampaha, Sri Lanka
    -    Flash floods in Wattala and Gampaha, Sri Lanka have affected about 480 people.
    -According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), 81 families are living in four evacuation centers.
    -Flash floods also caused heavy traffic along Colombo-Negombo Road.
  • Flooding between Blenheim and Seddon, New Zealand
    -Flooding and slips reported at State Highway 1 between Blenheim and Seddon.
    -Weld and Dashwood Passes are worst affected by the floods.
Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Reventador, Etna, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Erta Ale, Barren Island, Raung, Paluweh, Gamalama, Sakurajima, Kakar, Tinakula, Yasur, Tolbachik and Kilauea.
  • Aleutian Islands/Cleveland recent volcanic activity
    -    Continuous but low-level eruptions have been recorded at Cleveland Volcano in Aleutian Islands.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
There is no tropical storm activity for today.

  • A system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a cyclone by Thursday or Friday. Cyclone is predicted to head to Bangladesh or Orissa.

Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 60 km SE of Kegen and 227 km E Almaty . It was 6.8 miles deep. Following USGS, light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kegen, Tyup, Karakol, Aksu, Zharkent and Kyzyl-Suu. People of Kapchagai, Yesik, Aral, Talghar and Almaty will have felt weak shaking of MMI III. Earthquake occurred in the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China (Xinjiang).
