  • Landslide in Lilydale Park, Minnesota
    -One fourth grade student of Hobart Elementary School died and another went missing following a landslide in Lilydale Park.
    -Firefighters and police officers rescued two other student from gravel slide. However one student is still reported missing and is presumed dead.

  • Tornado in Russia-At least 200 people have been injured due to tornado in Efremov, near Tula, central Russia.
    -Tula Governor Vladimir Gruzdev declared a state of emergency during his participation in storm clean up.
    -Following Emergency Situations Ministry, Russian tornado damaged 179 houses, five schools and two kindergartens. Click for detail report on Russian tornado.

  • M 3.9 light shallow earthquake in Montenegro (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 24 km SW of Žabljak. Weak tremor will have felt as far as Podgorica.

  • M 3.4 light shallow earthquake in Utah (1 km depth) with epicenter located 8km ESE of Tooele. It will have well felt by the people of Herriman, Oquirrh, Riverton and Salt Lake City.

  • M 7.4 strong deep earthquake in Guam (@ 171 km depth) with epicenter located 282 km SW of Vaini. USGS expects maximum shaking intensity of IV in Vaini, Havelu, Nuku`alofa and `Ohonua. No Tsunami threat.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Greece (@ 25 km depth) with epicenter located 15km W of Nidri. People of Preveza, Arta and Agrinion will have felt light to weak shaking.

  • M 4.7 weak shallow earthquake in Hawaii (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 11km SSE of Volcano. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hilo and Kailua-Kona.

  • M 4.8 moderate deep earthquake in Chile (@ 128 km depth) with epicenter located 20km E of Putre. People of  Arica and Tacna (Peru) will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

Recent Flash Floods

  • Flash floods in Kathmandu, Nepal
    -Heavy rainfall swept away at least two houses
    in Kathmandu, Nepal.
    -Heavy rainfall also closed Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal's only one international airport, for an hour. At least three international flights were diverted due to poor visibility. Click for detail report on Kathmandu flood.
  • Flooding in Norway
    -Hundreds of people have been evacuated following mudslides and flooding in Norway.
    -Train services through Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen that connect Oslo and Trondheim have been closed.

It's important to know how we can prepare for natural disasters with proper emergency preparedness plan for less natural disasters damage. We have developed several natural disasters early warning system which provides warnings of natural disasters before they impact people and property. However, in spite of all the capabilities for advance warnings, we are still quite poor at preparing for these natural disasters. By 2015, on average over 375 million people per year are likely to be affected by natural disasters. Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm.
