  • Heat wave in Odisha, India
    -Intense heat has claimed lives of at least three people in Odisha, India.
    -Met Office has recorded temperature over 46 degree Celsius in several parts of Odisha.

  • Hailstorm in Poland
    -Hailstorm in Radom, Poland has damaged more than 50 houses.

Recent Earthquakes 
  • M 5.8 moderate earthquake in Peru (@ 82 km depth) with epicenter located 45km SW of Anta. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Pucyura, Progreso, Turpay, Cachimayo, Yaurisque, Limatambo, Cusco, Abancay and Santa Ana. People of Sicuani and Ayacucho will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 3.5 light shallow earthquake in Bosnia and Herzegovina (@ 12 km depth) with epicenter located 20km ESE of Gacko. It will have well felt by the people of Bileca, Foca, Niksic and Podgorica (Montenegro).

  • M 2.7 weak shallow earthquake in Canada (@ 14 km depth) with epicenter located 7km WSW of Hudson. It will have well felt by the people of Saint-Lazare, Les Coteaux and Vaudreuil-Dorion.

  • M 4.6 moderate deep earthquake in Mexico (@ 167 km depth) with epicenter located 21km WNW of Chicomuselo. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Frontera Comalapa, Comitan de Dominguez and Venustiano Carranza.

  • M 5.6 strong earthquake in Japan (@ 13 km depth) with epicenter located 113km SSW of Ishigaki. People of Ishigaki, Yonakuni, Hirara, Yilan and Keelung will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • Flooding along Kawasoti-Narayangarh Road, Nepal
    -Floods have obstructed Kawasoti-Narayangarh road section of the Mahendra Highway of Nepal. -Hundreds of vehicles are stranded in the highway after flood swept away diversion built over Lokaha stream. Click for detail report on Nepal's flooding.
  • Flash flooding in Columbia, South Carolina
    -Heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in Columbia, state of South Carolina.
    -Rainfall also flooded Gervais and Harden Street.
Recent Volcanic Activity
  • Costa Rica/Turrialba recent volcanic activity
    -    Following  Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori), Turrialba Volcano spewed gas and ash from two crater openings at 5:00 a.m Tuesday morning.
    -Ash fall was also reported in Cartago, San José, Heredia and Limón.

  • There is no tropical storm activity for today.

  • Waterspouts off Auckland coast, New Zealand
    -    Waterspouts and funnel clouds hit Auckland coast.
    -Double waterspouts were spotted in the Manukau Harbour but didn't touch down on ground.
    -Severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Northland and Auckland today.
  • Oklahoma City Medical Examiner's Office has received 24 bodies of tornado victims. US President Obama has declared major disaster in Oklahoma after devastating tornado. Oklahoma tornado 2013 is expected to be the costliest U.S. natural disaster this year.

We have developed several natural disasters early warning system which provides warnings of natural disasters before they impact people and property. However, in spite of all the capabilities for advance warnings, we are still quite poor at preparing for these natural disasters. By 2015, on average over 375 million people per year are likely to be affected by natural disasters. Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 60 km SE of Kegen and 227 km E Almaty . It was 6.8 miles deep. Following USGS, light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kegen, Tyup, Karakol, Aksu, Zharkent and Kyzyl-Suu. People of Kapchagai, Yesik, Aral, Talghar and Almaty will have felt weak shaking of MMI III. Earthquake occurred in the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China (Xinjiang).
