  • Landslide in Fujian, China
    -A landslide in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province has claimed lives of three people, including two children.

  • Tornado in Granbury, Texas
    -Tornado touched down several times in Hood, Tarrant, Dallas and Parker counties.

  • M4.5 moderate earthquake in Japan (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 32km ENE of Iwaki. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Namie, Kitaibaraki and Takahagi.

  • M 3.6 light shallow earthquake in Wyoming (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 23km WNW of Afton. It will have well felt by the people of Afton, Soda Springs, Montpelier, Hoback, Rafter J Ranch, Paris, Idaho Falls, Logan, Rexburg, Chubbuck and Pocatello (Idaho).     -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Mahasen was located 53 nm southeastward of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
    -Cyclone ‘Mahasen’ hit Patuakhali coast of Bangladesh with wind speed up to 90 kilometres per hour.

  • Tropical Storm Alvin
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TS Alvin was located 1130 km SSW of Manzanillo, Mexico.
    -Following the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Alvin could become a hurricane in the next day or two.

We have developed several natural disasters early warning system which provides warnings of natural disasters before they impact people and property. Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 60 km SE of Kegen and 227 km E Almaty . It was 6.8 miles deep. Following USGS, light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kegen, Tyup, Karakol, Aksu, Zharkent and Kyzyl-Suu. People of Kapchagai, Yesik, Aral, Talghar and Almaty will have felt weak shaking of MMI III. Earthquake occurred in the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China (Xinjiang). There are 19,0000 people within 100 km radius. The nearest places are and Imeni Stalina. Aftershocks are expected.
