  • Flooding in Arequipa , Peru
    -Six fatalities reported from severe flooding in Arequipa region of Peru.
    -Seven hours continuous rainfall destroyed hundreds of homes.
    -Floods also destroyed at least two bridges in Arequipa (Photo: AFP).

  • Winter Storm Nemo in US and Canada
    -Six fatalities reported from Winter Storm Nemo in US and Canada.
    -More than 30 inches of snows have been reported in  Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York and Maine.
    -Nemo is name of a Greek boy which means "from the valley" (In Latin: Nobody).

    -Fatalities number has risen to10.
    Connecticut: Five deaths reported. About 38,000 customers are still without power in Connecticut. All CT Transit buses have suspended service.
    New York:
    Two deaths reported. One in Germantown and the other in Poughkeepsie. About 10,000 customers are still without power in New York State. Also the trains between New York and Boston were suspended.
    Massachusetts: Two deaths reported. Around 40 people evacuated in Salisbury. The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth. About 4,10,000 customers are still without power in Massachusetts.
    New Hampshire: Second-biggest snowfall record in Concord. One killed.
    Boston: Around 24.9 inches of snowfall, Boston's fifth-highest snowstorm on record. Acela Express train services between NYC and Boston cancelled.
    Maine: Biggest snowfall (31.9 inches) in Maine. Earlier 27.1 inches in January 1979. Emergency declared in Maine. About 12,000 customers are still without power in Maine.
    New Jersey: About 3,000 customers are still without power in Maine.
    Vermont: The ferry between Charlotte and Essex, N.Y. closed due to high winds.

  • Flooding in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, United States
    -
    Flooding in Great Smoky Mountains National Park has destroyed a bridge across Walker Camp Prong.
    -
    Great Smoky Mountains National Park weather has become worse. Parts of Greenbrier, Cataloochee and Parson's branch road has also been flooded.
    -
    Severe storms in Great Smoky Mountains National Park area killeed 2 in July, 2012.

    -A 3-acre wildfire is burning in Big Thompson Canyon area near Alexander Mountain in Colorado.
    -Around 20 firefighters are currently struggling to control the blaze.
  • Earthquake with magnitude 6.5 to 7 is predicted in Almaty region in 2013. Earthquake prediction is done by director of the Institute of Seismology of Kazakhstan Tanatkan Abakanov.
