  • Flooding in Surigao de Norte, Philipiines
    -Around 16,000 people of Tubod, Butuan City, Alegria, Bacuag, Claver, Gigaquit and Mainit in Surigao del Norte are affected by recent floods.
    -Around 9,000 people are currently living in 27 evacuation centers in 18 barangays in one city and six municipalities in Surigao del Norte.
    -The City DRRMC in Butuan has raised Alert Level 2 after the water level in the Agusan River rose to 2.70 meters above sea level.
    -Following PAGASA, a tail-end of a cold front and the northeast monsoon will cause more rainfall in the next 24 hours.

  • M 4.9 moderate shallow earthquake in Egypt (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 68 km NNE of Rosetta.  Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Sidi Salim, Idku, Fuwah, Alexandria and Rosetta. The epicenter is in the Mediterranean Sea.

  • M 4.2 moderate shallow earthquake in Croatia (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km W Neoric. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Sinj, Solin and Split.
    The earthquake in Dubrovnik in 1667 which was one of the two most devastating earthquakes to hit the area of modern Croatia in the last 2,400 years killed 3,000 Croatians.

  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Taiwan (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 27 km SSE of Su'ao. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Luchou, Panchiao and Taipei City.

  • M 3.8 light shallow earthquake in Tunisia (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 10 km N Sidi bu zayd. Weak tremor will have felt as far as Al-qayrawan.

  • M 4.9 moderate earthquake in Mindanao, Philippines (@ 71 km depth) with epicenter located 46 km SW from General Santos. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of  Alabel, Davao City, General Santos City and Polomolok.

  • M 2.6 weak shallow earthquake in Oklahoma (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 3 km NE of Spencer. It will have well felt by the people of Edmond, Choctaw, Midwest City and Del City. Yesterday two earthquakes hit Oklahoma region.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Flooding in Demerara region of Guyana
    -Strong winds and high tides caused flooding in Cornelia Ida and Anna Catherina, on the West Coast of Demerara, Guyana.
    -Following the Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, the tides were caused by a weather front in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Tropical Cyclone Emang
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Emang was located 490 nm south-southeast of Diego Garcia.
    -Tropical Storm Emang continues to move through open waters in the Southern Indian Ocean.


Natural Disaster News
  • Giant wave in South Atlantic Ocean
    -A giant sea wave between Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica injured four crew members of a ship.
    -The ship was carrying 133 passengers and 113 crew members. All others are safe and the ship has returned to Ushuaia in Argentina.
    -Silversea canceled a cruise onboard the Silver Explorer following the giant wave.
  • A severe weather warning is issued for Christchurch, the Canterbury plains and the Canterbury high country today.
  •  The U.S. Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided $100,000 to assist people affected by the cold wave in Bangladesh. 
  • Interesting news spread over social media (mainly twitter) about "Happy 11,000th Christchurch earthquake" Today's minor aftershocks with magnitude 3.3 is so far 11,000th earthquake felt by Cantabrians.
