  • M 5.3 moderate shallow earthquake in Seram, Indonesia (@ 7 km depth) with epicenter located 106 km ENE of Amahai. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Ambon, Sorong and Tual.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake in Taiwan (@ 28 km depth) with epicenter located 77 km E from Hua-lien. People of Su-ao and Taipei will have felt weak shaking of MMI II.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake off the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 331 km ESE of Ishinomaki. It will have faintly felt as the epicenter is vry far from the coastal area.

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Virgin Islands Region (@ 33 km depth) with epicenter located 106 km N from Settlement. It will have faintly felt by the people of East End-Long Look, Spanish Town, Road Town and Carolina, PR.

  • M 5.4 moderate earthquake in Western Iran (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 33 km WSW of Borujen. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Farrokh Shahr, Shahr-e Kord, Farsan, Borujan and Esfahan.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Flooding in La Jolla, Southern California
    -High tide in La Jolla caused flooding in coastal area of southern California.
    -'King Tides' were also expected to come in to La Jolla at 6.9 feet at 8:01 a.m in San Diego.

Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.

No volcanic activity today.

  • A huge sunspot known as AR1654 produced the M1-class flare. The sun is in an active phase of its current 11-year weather cycle, which scientists call Solar Cycle 24. The sun's activity cycle is expected to reach its peak (or "solar maximum") in 2013.
  • Today is the third anniversary of Haiti earthquake. There are still more than 350,000 people living in the camps displaced by Haiti earthquake in January 12, 2010. Haiti's government said the quake killed about 316,000 people.
