  • Flood and landslide in Panama
    -Two people reported to be killed in landslide as floods hit Panama.
    -Panama has declared Capira, Chorrera and Colon disaster areas.
    -The worst flood hit areas were Colon province on the Caribbean coast and the Capira area 60km west of Panama City. Storms damaged 800 homes.
    -A river burst its bank and flooded near by shops in Chorrera.
    -Panama flood 2010 closed the Panama Canal. Historic flooding caused evacuation of thousands of people (Photo: Colon city's Barrio Norte under flood waters, Panama flood 2010).
    Update
    -Death toll from Panama flood has risen to 5. Following President Ricardo Martinelli , two members of the Red Cross died when their vehicle was buried in a landslide in the Caribbean coastal province of Colon. Other three were killed in Nueva Arenosa and Quebrada Ancha, Colon.
    -Panamanian military is using three helicopters for rescue operations.
    -Emergency Cabinet meeting will soon approve a special allocation of funds to help those affected by the Panama flooding.

  • M 4.7 modeate shallow earthquake in Southwestern Ryukyu Islands, Japan (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 67 km NNW of Hirara. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Miyakojima-shi, Ishigaki, Itoman and Tomigusuku.

  • M 5.0 moderate shallow earthquake in Dodecanese Islands, Greece (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 9 km ESE of Symi. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Trianta, Rodos, Petaloudes, Ialysos, Datca (Turkey).

  • M 3.6 light shallow earthquake in Southern California (@ 1 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km SW from Ocotillo Wells. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Borrego Springs, Pine Valley, La Mesa, Campo, Alpine, Poway, Ramona, El Centro and San Diego.

  • M 5.1 moderate earthquake in Philippine Islands Region (@ 43 km depth) with epicenter located 91 km ENE of San Isidro. People of General Luna, Guiuan, Placer and Surigao will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III.

  • M 5.5 strong shallow earthquake in Southern Xinjiang, China (@ 20 km depth) with epicenter located 296 km SSE of Turpan. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Hami, Korla and Urunchi.

    Earthquake caused minor cracks to several older houses.


Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Brazil (Rio Paranaiba, Juruena, Purus and Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Putamayo and Rio Negro), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq (Euphrates and Tigris), Kenya (Bohoni and Turo), Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile), Taiwan, Tanzania (Mwanza Shinyango road), Uganda (White Nile) and United States (Rio Grande, North America).
  • The National Weather Service issued a flood watch today with the upcoming storms later this week. Northern Sacramento Valley, northeast foothills, western Plumas County, Lassen Volcanic National Park and the west slope of the northern Sierra Nevada are likely to be affected by floods.

Erupting Volcanoes: Propocatepetl, Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Erta Ale, Marapi, Semeru, Paluweh, Gamalama, Lokon-Empung, Sakurajima, Ulawun, Yasur, Ambrym, Kizimen, Shiveluch and Kilauea volcano.
  • Hawaii/Kilauea recent volcanic activity
    -Eruption seen at two location, Puu Oo vent in the volcano's East rift zone, and a lava lake in Halemaumau crater at the summit, West Hawaii.
    -Flowing volcano lavas were seen entering the ocean. It can bee seen about 200 east of the eastern border of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

  • Tropical Cyclone Boldwin
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Boldwin was located 475 nm south of Diego Garcia.
  • Tropical Depression Twenty-six
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TD Twenty-six was located 265 nm southeast of Chuuk, fsm.


Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Chattahoochee forest, U.S.
    -A 215-acre wildfire is burning in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Fire is near the Black Mountain and Springer Mountain areas of the forest near the Dawson, Gilmer, Fannin and Lumpkin County lines.
    - Forest road 46 between Nimblewill Gap and High Shoals Church Road was temporarily closed.
