Recent Natural Disasters

• Flash flood in Batangas, Philippines
  -Three killed and two others are reported to be missing in a flash flood disaster in the northern Philippine province of Batangas.
  -Flood swept away the vehicle in Nagtaluntong village, town of Lobo. One person was immediately rescued by government security forces.

• M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Costa Rica (@ 45 km depth) with epicenter located just 7 km NNE of Parrita. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Alajuela, Jacó, Heredia, Grecia, Granadilla, Escazú, Concepción, Cartago, Palmar, Mercedes, Quepos, Sabanilla, San Antonio, San José, San Pedro, San Ramón and Santo Domingo.

• M 4.9 moderate shallow earthquake in Gulf of Paria, Venezuela (@ 12 km depth) with epicenter located just 6 km SSE of Yaguaraparo. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Carupano, Gueiria, Maturin and Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago).

• M 5.1 moderate earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 10 km NW of Yokaichiba. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of  Narita, Sawara, Katori-shi, Chuo and Tokyo. Weak shaking will have even felt by the people of Yokosuka and Yokohama city.

• M 6.7 strong shallow earthquake near the South Coast of Papua, Indonesia (@ 25 km depth) with epicenter located 103 km N of Dobo. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Tual and Nabire.

  Update
  -Local  meteorology agency building of Dobo region has been seriously damaged.
  -Weak shaking was felt as far as Darwin, Northern Territory region of Australia.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Murray), Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (Purus, Japura, Rio Juruena, Rio Teles Pires, Amazon, and Tocantins), Cambodia, Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Honduras, Indonesia, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Pakistan (Indus), People's Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Sudan (White Nile), United States (Mississippi) and Uruguay.

• Flash floods in Wales, United Kingdom
  -Flooding in Cardigan and Ceredigion region of Wales destroyed six homes.
  -Flood alert is in effect for the rivers Loughor and Amman, River Ewenny and Vale of Glamorgan west catchement areas, the rivers Llynfi and Ogmore and the lower Teifi.

  -Two sailors from Essex killed after giant wave hit their yacht.
• Official in Niger says recent floods have killed 91 people in the country. Flood affected all eight regions, including the large regions of Tillabery, Dosso and Niamey.
• Following official data, Natural disasters killed 1,263 Chinese across China in the first three quarters of 2012.
