Recent Natural Disasters

• Major Avalanche on Mount Manaslu, Nepal
  -Nine killed and 13 injured in an avalanche in Mount Manaslu, Gorkha district of Nepal.
  -Among the dead are French and German tourists.
  -The avalanche took place at the 2 and 3 number base camp around 04:30 AM Sunday morning.
  -Rescue teams have reached from Kathmandu on Simrik, Fishtail and Mountain Air helicopters to the disaster area.
  -Manaslu is a very steep, sharp peak and also the eighth highest mountain in the world.  Mt. Manaslu is the 4th most dangerous 8000m peak in the World behind Annapurna, Nanga Parbat, and K2. Huge Avalanche in Manaslu in 1972 killed 15 climbers. Click for detail update report on Manaslu avalanche.

• M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Tarapaca, Chile (@ 93 km depth) with epicenter located 96 km E of Iquique. It will have felt as far  as Tocopilla,  Arica and Calama.

• M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Philippine Islands region (@ 38 km depth) with epicenter 133 km NE of Anito. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Laoang, Pambujan and Catarman.

• M 4.3 light deep earthquake in Peru-Brazil Border Region (@ 149 km depth) with epicenter located 65 km ENE of Pucallpa. Just a weak shaking of MMI II will have felt around epicenter area.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Paraguay, Xingu, Rio Teles Pires, Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Japura and Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lukaga), Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and Venezuela (Orinoco).

• Flash floods across Nigeria
  -A combination of natural and man-made flood disasters killed 69 in Four States of Nigeria (Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kogi and Niger states) this week.
  -Cold and wet weather killed about 10,000 cattle in Swaziland in the past month.

  -Several people rescued from flooding in Sorsogon, Allen and Dapdap.
  
• Tropical Storm Miriam
  -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Miriam was located 900 km S of the southern tip of Baja California.
  - Miriam is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph. No threat to land.

  -One injured and several houses damaged in strong storms in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.
• Peru earthquake prediction!
  -There is rumor among the Peruvians that a extreme earthquake will hit the country this week.
  -It is not the first time, earlier two Russian scientists predict the earthquake to hit Friday (last but went wrong). Several links are even posted on godlike production (GLP) site that a quake will hit Peru between September 23 to September 28.
