  • Wildfire in Central Washington
    Flames from the Taylor Bridge Fire climb the side of Lookout Mountain east of Cle Elum

    -Wildfire in Central Washington burned 60 homes. Following Fire officials, fire has burned at least 24,000 acres since it started Monday afternoon east of the town of Cle Elum.
    -More than 400 people evacuated. However no injury reported.
    -In all, 62 fires are burning. A state of emergency declared in Kittitas County.
    -A 14-mile section of U.S. Highway 97 closed because of the fire.

  • Powerful earthquake off northern Japan, near Russia
    -M 7.7 very strong deep earthquake in Sea of Okhotsk with epicenter located 158 km ENE of Poronaysk.
    -The quake was mildly felt on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido and in the northeastern section of Honshu. The quake was rated 3 on the Japanese seismic scale of 1-7.
    -Following USGS PAGER MAP, just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Poronaysk, Smirnykh, Leonidovo, Gastello, Vakhrushev, Shakhtersk, Tymovskoye, Makarov, Boshnyakovo, Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinskiy and Mgachi. Click for update report on earthquake in Sea of Okhotsk.
  • Hailstorms in Siberia, Russia
    -At least 20 people injured and more than 100 cars damaged in recent hailstorms in Siberian town of Mezhdurechensk in Russia.
    -The storm was caused by a sharp, 15-degree Celsius drop in temperature.
    -The town is located in the Kemerovo region in Central Siberia some 3,800 km east of Moscow.

  • M 3.5 weak shallow earthquake in Nevada (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 18 km NE from Zenobia. It will have well felt by the people of Reno, Sparks, Smoke Creek, Sun Valley, Spanish Springs, Sutcliffe, Fallon, Cold Springs and Portola.

  • M 4.5 moderate deep earthquake in Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan (@ 198 km depth) with epicenter located 36 km SSE of Jarm. It will have faintly felt by the people of Ashkasham, Ishkashim and Fayzabad.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake in Taiwan (@ 25 km depth) with epicenter located 76 km SSW of Yonakuni (Japan). Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Hualian, Su'ao and Yilan.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Australia (River Murray), Botsawana (Savuti channel), Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (River Tocantins, River Rio Negro, River Madeira and River Amazon), China (River Mekong, River Huang He and River Brahmaputra), Colombia (River Rio Negro and River Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (River Lukaga), India, Kenya (Tana upstream from Masings), Lesotho (River Orange), Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan (River Indus), Tanzania (River White Nile) and Uganda. 
  • Flash floods in Karen state, Myanmar
    -Up to 6,000 people became homeless after major flooding in Hpa-an Township in Karen State.
    -Following the Karen News, the homeless are taking shelter in eight different emergency camps.
    -Floods and landslides are common natural disasters in Burma from late April to early October.
  • Flash floods and landslides in Kansai, Japan
    -Two people are missing after heavy rainstorms hit western Japanese region of Kansai. More than 1,000 people are advised to evacuate from homes.

  • Flash floods in Merseyside, England
    -Thunderstorms caused flash flooding across Merseyside.

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Tungurahua, Villarrica, Etna, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doinyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Semeru, Batu Tara, Dukono, Karangetang and Manam volcano.
  • Ecuador/Tungurahua recent volcanic activity
    -High seismic activity with continuous emission of gases.
    -Satellite imagery shows a plume of volcanic ashes and gases extended 50 NM WNM of the Summit.
    -Tungurahua, is an active stratovolcano located in the Cordillera Oriental of Ecuador.
    Mount Tongariro/New Zealand recent volcanic activity

    Mount Tongariro spewed ash and rocks for about 30 minutes.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Storm Kai-Tak
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TS Kai-Tak (Helen) was located approximately 305 nm northeast of Manila, Philippines.
    -The weather bureau in Philippines raised Storm Signal No. 1 over Quirino, Aurora, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Cagayan and Batanes.
  • Tropical Storm Hector
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TS Hector was located 250 km WSW of Socorro island and 645 km SSW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Hector is moving toward the west near 6 mph.

  • Landslide in Pahaska Tepee, Wyoming
    -A landslide near Pahaska Tepee closed down the East Entrance to Yellowstone Park.
    -Thunderstorms led to heavy rain and caused slide on both lanes of the North Fork Highway.

    -USGS mentioned earthquake of magnitude 5.1 at a depth of 60 km immediately after M 7.7 powerful earthquake in Sea of Okhotsk.
