Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in Sumatra, Indonesia
    -Eight people reported to be missing in heavy flash flood in Indonesia.
    -The rivers in Padang burst their banks and caused flooding disaster. Lubuk Kilangan, Kurao Pagang and Batang Kuranji rivers were among them.
    -The worst hit areas were Limau Manis, Batu Busuk, Kampung Koto, Cengkeh, Padang Besi, Kalumbuk and Tunggul Hitam of West Sumatra.
    -Floods and landslides are common natural disasters in Indonesia.

  • M 3.8 light earthquake in Greater Los Angeles Area, California (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located just 3 km ESE from Marina del Rey. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Marina del Rey and Ladera Heights. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Culver City, El Segundo, Westwood, Inglewood, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Ana, Anaheim and Riverside.

  • M 4.6 moderate deep earthquake in Catamarca, Argentina (@ 167 km depth) with epicenter located 52 km NW of Poman. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Andalgala, Belen and Arauco.

  • M 6.6 very strong earthquake in Simeulue, Indonesia with epicenter located 292 km WSW from Medan. It will have well felt by the people of Kabanjahe, Binjai, Pangkalanbrandan, Stabat, Langsa, Sunggal, Medan, Percut, Pematangsiantar and Banda Aceh. It will have even felt as far as Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to NOAA, a local Tsunami is expected. M 8.6 massive earthquake in Indonesia in April 11, 2012 caused a tsunami and warnings were issued across the Indian Ocean.

    - A woman died in floods in Farafenni, North Bank Region of Gambia.
    -Torrential rainfall from several days caused flash flood in the area.

  • Tropical Storm Vincente
    -Strong winds and rain caused by Tropical Storm Vincente killed two fisherman in Cambodia.
    -Out of seven people, four others were rescued from the boat in Pursat province, northwest of the capital, Phnom Penh.

  • Wildfire in Muskoka Lakes region, Canada
    -About 50 people evacuated due to wildfire in Muskoka Lakes region of Ontario, Canada.
    -No major damage or injury reported.
  • Landslide in Dolakha, Nepal
    -Three families reported to be displaced due to landslide in Dolakha, Nepal.
    -Dozens of houses at Tamakosi bazaar are at risk of landslide.
