Nine Chinese and two British sailors rescued in Philippines after their yacht sank in rough waters. The yacht “Tipsy Frenz” was sailing from Hong Kong to Taiwan.

Mawar continues to impact Japan today yet its impact is minor compared to the damage it caused in the PI where 3 deaths have now been reported and 5 people are still missing. Below is a video update.



Update 2012/06/05
Death toll has risen to three in Philippines (two from Palawan and one from Rizal).Seven people are reported to be injured. Five people are still missing.
Sacalayan national road flooded and damaged because of heavy downpour of water from Mompong river.

-Now Mawar is no longer threat to Philippines. It is heading towards Okinawa, Japan (Video attached)
-The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services said new potential cyclone (codenamed "Butchoy"), now an active low-pressure area, may follow the same path as "Ambo."

-Both the fatalities are from Palawan region. Seven people are reported to be injured and seven other missing from Rizal, Romblon and Camarines Sur.
-Strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the seaboards of Luzon and the western seaboard of Visayas.

Sto. Nino Detour bridge in Brgy. Sto. Nino, Busuanga, palawan region reported to be collapsed due to strong current of river.
As of 7:00 AM (local time), 04 June 2012,  a total of 108 stranded passengers and 2 light vehicles were reported in Pasacao, Camarine Sur.

 -Two people killed and 16 others reported to be injured. Five are still missing.
-Status upgraded from "Blue Alert" to "Red Alert" effective 8:00 AM, 03 June 2012 due to intensification of TY "AMBO" in Philippine area of responsibility.

At 4:00 AM today (local time), Tropical Storm "AMBO" was located 290km east of Aparri, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is forecast to move north northeast at 9kph. Metro manila will have monsoon rains.

-A bridge reported to be collapsed in Brgy Amoid 2, San Mateo, Rizal. Five workers of Manila Water were injured (1 severely injured).
-Flooding reported in Brgy malpalon, Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro. Brgy Road connecting Sitio Tapiken and Sitio Kiwit, Brgy sagrada, Busuanga, Palawn reported to be flooded.
-Two person reported to be injured in Landslide in Antipolo City-Cabrera Road, Brgy. San Roque

-Storm warning signal No. 2 has been raised over the Batanes group of islands and Calayan islands which means that winds of 61-100 kph are expected in at least 24 hours in these areas.

-Storm warning (storm signal no. 1) issued for Batanes Group of Islands and Calayan Islands and storm signal no. 1 warning issued for Northern Aurora, Isbela, cagayan including Babuyan Island

At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm"AMBO" was estimated based on satellite, radar and surface data at 220 km East of Casiguran, Aurora (16.1°N, 124.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It is forecast to move north northwest at 13 kph.

- Tropical storm

Will the strength of tropical storm Ambo(Mawar) increase?
-Yes, it is going to be a Cat 1 Typhoon by late today (June 2). Though the center of the storm is in the sea water, Certain impact can be seen in San Jose, Soliven, Vigan and Laog. It will then bend slightly right and move along Ryuku Islands of Japan.

Is that tropical storm Ambo (Mawar) will even strengthen to Typhoon of Cat 2?
-Looking the current forecast, Mawar is expected to strengthen to Cat 2 Typhoon by late June 3. It will then affect Okinawa region. Okinawa Prefecture is one of Japan's southern prefectures. It consists of hundreds of the Ryukyu Islands in a chain over 1,000 kilometers long, which extends southwest from Kyūshū to Taiwan.

Tropical Storm Ambo (Mawar)
-Bicol, Aurora and Isabela under storm signal no. 1.
-Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under signal no. 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.
-More than 500 passengers were stranded in three Bicol ports on Friday when the Philippine Coast Guard suspended maritime operations in the ports of Virac and San Andres in Catanduanes and Tabaco in Albay.
-Different domestic and international flights were forced to divert at Clark Air Base rather than NAIA due to bad weather. Some other flights were also cancelled.
-Estimated rainfall amount is from 15-25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 500 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.
-TS "Ambo" is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over the western section of Southern Luzon and Visayas.
-Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboard of Luzon and Visayas.
-At 4:00 p.m. today, Tropical Storm"AMBO" was estimated based on satellite, radar and surface data at 190 km Northeast of Virac.
-Mawar means "rose" in Malay.
-Tropical Storm Mawar is expected to bring heavy rain to Taiwan this Sunday.
-PAGASA expects Ambo (international code name Mawar) to move towards Okinawa, Japan Monday, June 4.
-Initially a tropical depression, Mawar formed over the western Pacific Ocean on May 31, 2012, and strengthened to a tropical storm the following day. It is first tropical cyclone of 2012 in Philippines.
