Duluth_harbor_flood_photo_recent_natural_disasters
  • Flooding in Duluth, Minnesota
    -A state of flood emergency declared.
    -Around $100 million damage estimated from Northland flooding.
    -About 200 residents from the Fond du Lac neighborhood in Duluth and 40 from the Thomson, Minnesota area are still displaced.
    -It is believed to be the worst flood since 1972 in the Twin Ports area and along the north shore of Lake Superior.
    -Sinkholes and mudslides were reported across the city.
    -Several animals at Lake Superior Zoo were killed by floods.
    -Heavy rains have caused runoff in the Duluth Harbor and out into Lake Superior (as seen in photo; source: Duluth News Tribune)

  • M 6.0 strong harmless sea quake in Macquarie Island Region (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 24 km NW of Macquarie Island, Australia. The populated residental area is very far to cause any damage.

  • M 5.7 strong harmless sea quake South of the Kermadec Islands (@ 24 km depth) with epicenter located 154 km SSE of L'Esperance Rock. The populated residential area is very far to cause any damage.

    -Increased seismic activity detected in Mýrdalsjökull glacier under which the volcano Katla lies.
    -Twenty-six minor earthquakes recorded with epicenter within the Katla crater.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Victoria, Australia
    -At least 30 homes have been evacuated in Koo Wee Rup.
    -Floods also shut down Yallourn power station.
  • Flooding in North-west England
    -A severe weather warning issued for Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire with high risk of flooding.
    -People in Manchester, Liverpool, the Wirral, Cheshire and Lancashire are said to in high alert and prepare for flooding.
    -Heavy rainfall also forecast for central and north Wales.

    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Chris was located 870 km ESE of Cape Race Newfoundland, Canada.

  • Tornado in Long Sutton, England
    -Tornado affected parts of Long Sutton and Lutton.
    -No damage or injury reported.
  • Major quake to hit Mukomuko, Indonesia
    -According to Mukomuko district head Ichwan Yunus, the Mukomuko district of Bengkulu province is likely to have a powerful earthquake and a devastating tsunami any moment.
    -Based on the analysis of experts, an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale can happen at any moment.
  • Natural disasters leave 1,126 dead, missing in China in 2011
    Natural disasters left 1,126 people dead or missing in China in 2011, a statement released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) said Thursday. Natural disasters affected about 32.47 million hectares of crops.

Tibet/Nepal earthquake 2013 injures people
