Update 2012/05/30
-A houses get damaged in North Charleston (see video below)
-Lowland flooding occurred near Wilmington, N.C.
-Flood watch issued in eastern North Carolina.
-Power outage in Tri-County area.
-The tropical depression gained some strength overnight and winds increased to near 35 mph (55 kph).

-Flash flood and flood watches for South Carolina and North Carolina coasts. Flood warnings, watches and advisories remains in effect for parts of Florida and Georgia.
-The rain is much-needed in the region as areas of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina are under drought conditions ranging from "severe" to "exceptional."
-A total of 12.65 inches rainfall received from Beryl in the town of Midway, Florida, about 12 miles west of Tallahassee.
-Heavy rain expected in Outer Banks of North Carolina.
-Following the hurricane center, dangerous rip currents remain possible from northeastern Florida to North Carolina.

Numerous showers with embedded lightning storms moving onto the Nature Coast will venture into central Florida this afternoon. Additional heavy rainfall (1-2 inches) will be possible especially across Lake Volusia, Orange and Seminole counties.

Beryl is located 100 km WNW of Jacksonville Florida and 65 km ESE of Valdosta Georgia. Beryl has already been downgraded to a tropical depression. All coastal tropical storm warnings have been discontinued.

Important Updates
-The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for southeastern Duval County and northwestern St. Johns County until 11:15 a.m. which was canceled after some time.
-Flights to Dulles International, Nashville and Charlotte from Jacksonville International Airport was canceled.
-Heavy rainfall reported in Putnam County.
-The Red Cross opened a shelter at 9 a.m. for Lake City residents at Westside Elementary School at 1956 SW County Road 252B, Lake City, FL 32024.

-Following Georgia power (twitter), 3,570 customers out of power following storm Beryl. 1,650 are without power in St. Mary's, 1,190 in St. Simon's and another 800 in Savannah.
-Jacksonville International has cancelled all 6 a.m. or earlier departing flights following the storms impact.

-Beryl is located 30 km W of Jacksonville Florida and 135 km ESE of Valdosta Georgia.
-Trees and wires down across the Nassau county.

-The Jacksonville Aviation Authority has announced that all airlines, except JetBlue and Delta, have cancelled.
-The Mathews Bridge remains closed.

Beryl is located 30 km E of Jacksonville Florida1 and 00 km S of Brunswick Georgia.
-Beryl made landfall along the coast of Florida near Jacksonville Beach.
-Huguenot Park near Jacksonville Beach recently reported sustained winds of 53 mph (85 km/h)

-Power outage reported in various areas of Jacksonville  including Arlington, Atlantic and Neptune beaches, downtown, Mandarin, the Garden City and Ribault areas of the Northside, Orange Park, Riverside, San Jose, the San Souci area of the Southside and the Picketville and Steelbald areas of the Westside.
-Garbage collection is cancelled for Monday.

Important Update
-According to Jacksonville's Mayor Alvin Brown, no bridge or airport closings are planned but if winds reach 40mph, bridges will shut down.
-All outdoor Jacksonville Jazz Festival activities remain canceled.
-Mayor Alvin Brown announced all Memorial Day ceremonies scheduled for Monday are canceled. No information available yet on whether they will be rescheduled to another date.
-Memorial Day ceremonies in St. Augustine at the veterans cemetery there are canceled, as well as the event at VFW Post 23911 according to Glen Tilley of the VFW.
-The Memorial Day remembrance at the Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery on Lannie Road set for 2pm  was also canceled said organizer Joe Covella.
-Garbage,yard waste and recycling collection for Monday has been canceled in Duval county.
-Cumberland Island National Seashore will close to visitation on Sunday, at 4:45 PM in preparation for the storm.
-Entry to Hanna and Huguenot parks will be closed at noon, and visitors will be cleared from the parks.
-All Jax Parks and pools are closed.
-The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port will restrict commercial vessel activity at noon.
-The Jacksonville International Airport is currently operating as normal; however, travelers are encouraged to contact their individual airlines for updates to their travel plans.

-Beryl is currently located 270 km E of Jacksonville Florida and 290 km se of Savannah Georgia.
-A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for  Volusia/Brevard County line Florida to Edisto Beach South Carolina.
-An Air Force reconnaissance aircraft recently reported a minimum central pressure of 998 mb.

Orlandoballoonrides mentions, because of the close proximity of Tropical Storm Beryl, it will be much too unstable to fly tomorrow morning. The flight is cancelled. Sorry to disappoint but we have to be safe.

-After landfall, Beryl is expected to move slowly west-northwestward and then turn northward over portions of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia on Monday and Monday night.
-Beryl is expected to weaken to a depression on Monday.

Outside Jazz Fest cancelled following the tropical storm beryl.

Beryl is currently (03:06 UTC) located 345 km se of Charleston South Carolina and 435 km E of Jacksonville Florida.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Volusia/Brevard County line Florida to Edisto Beach South Carolina.
On the forecast track the center of Beryl is expected to approach the southeastern coast of the United States on Sunday and then make landfall Sunday night or Monday. dangerous surf conditions are expected along the coast from northeastern Florida to North Carolina over the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend.
Beryl is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 3 to 6 inches along the southeastern coast of the United States from northern Florida through southeastern North Carolina.



The name Beryl has been used for five tropical cyclones and one subtropical cyclone in the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of three names used for five tropical storms with none of them becoming a hurricane; the two others are Ana and Arthur.

    Tropical Storm Beryl (1982): It first moved across Atlantic but dissipated north of the Windward Islands. It caused moderate damage and 3 deaths in Cape Verde.
    Tropical Storm Beryl (1988):  It was formed over Louisiana and drifted into the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall at New Orleans, causing one death at sea and about $4 million in damage.
    Tropical Storm Beryl (1994): It went onshore at Panama City, Florida, 12 hours after forming; quickly went up the eastern states, dropping heavy rain and spawning many tornadoes; $73 million in damage, mostly in South Carolina.
    Tropical Storm Beryl (2000): Made landfall in Mexico near the Texas border, causing one drowning death and some damage.
    Tropical Storm Beryl (2006): Formed southeast of North Carolina, brushed coastal Massachusetts and dissipated over Atlantic Canada
    Subtropical Storm Beryl (2012), currently active.

Beryl also has been used in the South-West Indian Ocean.
