Strong Earthquake Shakes Mexico Today

M 6.5 strong earthquake shakes Michoacan, Mexico this Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake epicenter was 69 km (42 miles) NW of Lazaro Cardenas and 129 km (80 miles) SSW of Uruapan. It was 12.4 miles deep.

Uruapan is a city and municipality in the west-central part of the Mexican state of Michoacán.

People immediately evacuated some buildings in the Mexico city, but the city government said helicopter flights detected no signs of damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported a preliminary reading of 7.0 magnitude for the quake, but later downgraded it to 6.5.

Today M 8.7 massive earthquake hit Indonesia in which Tsunami warning was issued in 28 countries.

Following USGS about 15,000 people will have felt strong shaking of MMI VI.
People of La Orilla, Lazaro Cardenas, Arteaga, Las Guacamayas, Aguililla, La Mira Tumbiscatio will have felt moderate shaking of MMI V. Light shaking will have experienced by the epeople of Guadalajara and weak shaking across Zapopan, Leon, Queretaro anbd Acapulco de Juarez.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
