Recent Natural Disasters
  • Severe Drought in Thailand
    -The Department of Disaster Mitigation and Prevention of Thailand announced 42 provinces as a drought disaster zone today.
    -More than 100,000 households worse affected by drought.
    -Rainfall is expected by end of this month.
    -The water storage at Queen Sirikit Dam is enough in parts of north east areas.
    -Summer storms likely to hit Thailand's South soon.
    -In beginning of April, eleven districts in the northern province of Chiang Mai was declared disaster zones due to severe drought.

  • M 3.5 weak shallow earthquake in Southern California (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 10 km NNW from Borrego Springs. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Borrego Springs, Salton City, Mecca, Ramona, Poway and La Quinta
  • M 5.3 moderate earthquake in Solomon Islands (@ 39 km depth) with epicenter located 141 km SSW of Dadali. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt as far as Honiara.

  • M 4.2 moderate shallow earthquake in South Island of New Zealand (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 14 km  ENE of Christchurch. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Christchurch.

  • M 4.2 moderate shallow earthquake in Western Iran (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 42 km ENE of Dezful. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Masjed-e Soleyman, Iran.

    -Flood watch issued for Bucks and Montgomery counties.
    -Heavy rain is expected to fall across the region.
    -Flooding threat of Neshaminy Creek in Bucks County.
    -During severe storms (Hurricane Floyd) on September 16, 1999, water level of Creek rose more than 3 metres.
