Recent World Disasters

• Flooding in South Louisiana, USA (Under "Natural Disaster in USA")
  
  
  -State of emergency declared in South Louisiana (Lafayette, Acadia, St. Landry and St. Martin)
  -Wildlife crews rescued 77 people from flooded areas in Carencro
  -16 middle school students were safely removed from a bus stranded in the water
  -Most of the thunderstorms in the New Orleans area were south of the city
  -National Weather Service spokesman Joe Rua in Lake Charles says radar indicated up to 15 inches of rainfall by noon Monday in Acadiana
  -Carencro Community Center, a shelter was opened which had up to 50 people there by early evening
  -No deaths or injuries reported so far

• M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Dominican Republic Region (@ 19 km depth) with epicenter located 107 km NE from Higüey. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Santo Domingo

  -Currently Sakurajima volcano is at Level 3 (Do not approach the volcano)

• Flash flood in Northern Chile
  -About 300 people evacuated from Valley of Azapa after flooding of the Rio San Jose in the town of Arica
  -Heavy rainfall with flooding knocked down bridges and blocked the rail line to neighboring Peru
  -Red Alert is declared for the Province of Magallanes. Also for the Province of Tamarugal
  -1,500 customers in Punta Arenas coastal remained without power
  -The classes in the town of Punta Arenas are suspended

• Flash flood in Port Moresby Region, Papua New Guinea
  -Road collapsed between Port Moresby's central business district and outlying suburbs
  -A temporary bridge is being considered so traffic can resume
  -No deaths or injuries reported so far

• Tropical Cyclone Lua
  -Tropical cyclone Lua, located approximately 240 nm west-northwest of Port Hedland, Australia, has tracked west-northwestward at 02 knots over the past six hours 
• GREEN ALERT for the tropical cyclone Koji. It has already weaken to a tropical depression

• Tornado in Coleman city, USA destroyed a garage, damaged three barns and uprooted trees. Power outage in several counties but no injuries were reported.
• Extreme Cold wave in Akole city of Maharashtra, India has damaged crops.
