Alaska Storm 2011: Threat For Coastal Flooding In Western And Northwest Alaska

Disaster Report: The extremely dangerous Alaska storm which is heading towards Coastal Alaska  is the strongest storm to hit the state in four decades and greater damage is certain.

UPDATE
Massive Norm Storm that hit Alaska's western coast surges has passed out of the region. So far, 37 communities have reported some form of damage.On Thursday, rescuers searched for a 26-year-old man who was said to be washed into the Bering Sea during the nome storm. The Alaska storm also called an epic event that displaced residents, flooded the shoreline, ripped up roofs and knocked out power in many villages was so  strong that it was difficult even  to get a full picture of the damage around the community.
More than 500 of Point Hope's nearly 700 residents have been staying at the village school.
The northwest Alaska villages of Point Hope and Kivalina, one of the most eroded communities in the state were hard hit by this storm.


UPDATE 16:17 UTC 
Alaska storm will continue across northwestern Alaska today, with the threat for coastal flooding in western and northwest Alaska, even as the large storm system weakens and moves northwest.

NWS said Water levels from storm surge have peaked, however water levels remain very high in this region. In Nome, water levels crested at 10 feet Wednesday evening.

UPDATE 
Next warning is for the areas on Alaska's western coast between Norton Sound and Point Hope which may be  vulnerable to a possible surge of sea water. Flooding was reported in Point Hope, where the water came within 10 feet of the airport runway.

UPDATE 11/10/2011
It is the strongest storm to hit the state in four decades. Even  flooding is reported in Low lying area. NWS said, there were no new reports of substantial damage in Nome late Wednesday night. Remember Nome was first where evacuation order was given.

An Alaska storm (Norm Storm), which could be one of the worst on record for the state, as warned by National Weather Service, is heading towards Coastal Alaska. The city of Nome (along Front Street  other low-lying areas in town), has already issued an evacuation order late Tuesday. Recent warning message issued by NWS mentions 10 to 18 inches of snow over the southern parts of the Interior Seward Peninsula. It also mentions the heaviest amounts will be on South facing slopes in the mountains.
The officials warned that "This will be an extremely dangerous and life threatening storm of an epic magnitude rarely experienced"
Though in this time of year, it is common in North Pacific and Bering Sea but the officials said it seems to be unusual one because of its trajectory.
