Tropical Cyclone Harold forms near Solomon Islands

Update April 4, 2020 About 28 people aboard a ferry have been missing due to rough seas in the Solomon Islands. Main Post April 3, 2020: Tropical Cyclone Harold has formed in the Coral Sea, southwest of Honiara, according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). The Australian Bureau of Meteorology said Tropical Cyclone Harold, a category one, is 245 km west southwest of Honiara, the capital city of Solomon Islands. Tropical Cyclone Harold is forecast to intensify to category 2 strength as it approaches Solomon Islands. On 1st April 2020, a tropical low was formed centered between the Solomon Islands and the eastern coast of Papua New Guinea. Later, BOM upgraded the tropical low into a Category 1 tropical cyclone, and named it Harold. Harold is the 8th named storm of the 2019/20 South Pacific tropical cyclone season. Low pressure triggers flooding in Castellon de la Plana, Spain

April 2, 2020: An area of low pressure has triggered torrential rainfall leading to floods in parts of eastern Spain. Floodwaters have affected Castellon de la Plana, the capital of Castellon province. According to media reports, at least 91 people have been rescued in Almassora, Borriana and Oropesa.  Further, severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have been predicted for the Balearic Islands.

4.0 magnitude earthquake rattles Bajhang, Nepal

April 2, 2020: An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 has been recorded in Bajhang at 08:55 pm pm local time. According to the Nepal's National Seismological center, the epicenter was located near Lekhgaun. No preliminary damage or injuries have been recorded. Last week, light earthquake of magnitude 4.0 was recorded in Dhading, Nepal .

Flash floods in Afghanistan kill 11, injure 15

April 1, 2020: Recent flash floods in Afghanistan have claimed lives of 11 people and injured 15 others. According to the Ministry of State for Natural Disaster and Humanitarian, flood water have totally destroyed around 288 houses. The government has allocated 1,615 million Afs to combat the natural disaster and provide humanitarian’s aid for the citizens.    Afghanistan Meteorological Department had issued flash flood warning for the region on March 31, 2020.
