M4.4 earthquake hits Jaggayyapeta — Tremor felt as far as Hyderabad, India

January 26, 2020: An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 has been recorded in Jaggayyapeta, Andhra Pradesh, India at around 2:35 am local time. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake's epicenter was located 27 km far from Jaggayyapeta, Andhra Pradesh, India. The earthquake occurred at 10 km depth. The tremor lasted for around 6 seconds in Jaggayyapeta area. People rushed out of their houses with fear in the epicenter area. However,no damage or injuries have been reported. Light to weak tremors were felt in some parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The earthquake of light intensity with MMI IV was felt in Jaggayyapeta, Kodad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nandigama, Sattenapalle and Miryalaguda. These all places lies within 50 km of the epicenter area. Similarly the tremor was felt in Khammam, Gudivada, Jangaon, Warangal, Uppal Kalan and as far as Hyderabad. 

Elazig, Turkey Earthquake 2020: At least 19 dead, more than 600 injured

January 25, 2020: At least 19 people have been killed and more than 600 have been injured in eastern Turkey after an earthquake rattled Elazig on Friday evening at 08:55 pm. The 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Sivrice, in eastern Elazig province of Turkey . The earthquake was felt in neighboring provinces of Elazığ, Diyarbakır, Malatya, Adıyaman and Samsun. Kandilli Observatory revised the size of the earthquake to 6.5. According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), thirteen people were killed in Elazig province, four in Malatya, one in Diyarbakir and one in another area. Flash floods and landslides in Peru damage houses

January 23, 2020: Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have affected the departments of Arequipa and Huanuco in Peru . Flash floods and landslides wreaked havoc in Uchumayo district damaging more than 80 homes. Roads have been closed in the departments of Lima, Ayacucho, and Moquegua. Two weeks ago, flooding killed two people in departments of Pasco and Puno.

Flooding in Mozambique kills 28 dead — Leaves 58,000 affected

January 23, 2020: Flooding in Mozambique since December 2019 has claimed lives of at least 28 people, injuring 66 and affecting more than 58,000. The worst flood hit provinces have been identified as Zambezia, Cabo Delgado and Sofala where around 17,432 people, 13,169 and 6,328 have been affected respectively.  Flooding disaster damaged more than 10,200 houses. National Disaster Management Institute (INGC) has provided assistance to around 10,000 people.

3.0 magnitude earthquake rattles Stockton-on-Tees, Durham today: BGS

January 23, 2020: Magnitude 3.0 earthquake has been recorded in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham today at just before 6 a.m., the British Geological Survey (BGS) reported. The earthquake occurred at 4 km depth. The tremor was felt across Stockton, Billingham, Hartlepool, Wolviston and Middlesbrough. According to BGS, more than 370 reports has been received from people who felt the earthquake in Stockton-on-Tees today. Typical reports described, "woke me up, felt like someone had crashed into the house with a car", "single shock felt like an explosion nearby", "it felt like the house was lifting from its foundations.
