Great ShakeOut 2019: Earthquake drill set for October 17 across United States

October 17, 2019: The annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill will take place Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m. across the United States . The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region III office has urged the people to participate and learn the simple but critical safety steps to preparing for and staying safe during an earthquake. The Great ShakeOut is the largest earthquake drill worldwide and people need to practice Drop, Cover, and Hold  to survive and recover quickly from the next big earthquake , FEMA mentioned in its news release . During the self-led drill, participants practice how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On.” For most people, in most situations, the recommended earthquake safety action is to: DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees; COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand, as you crawl for shelter under a nearby table or desk; HOLD ON to your shelter with one hand until shaking stops (remain on your knees and covering your head and neck with

Several evacuated after flooding in Tipton, England

October 15, 2019: Seventeen residents have been evacuated from 10 houses on Park Lane West in Tipton, West Midlands after flooding in the area. Tipton Green Junior School also remain closed after 700 children were evacuated due to flooding. According to the South Staffordshire Water, atleast 20 properties have been damaged. "The evacuated residents have been temporarily re-homed by Sandwell Council while others have made their own arrangement,"  BBC reported quoting the West Midlands Fire Service. Magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattles Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek areas

October 15, 2019: A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattled the San Francisco Bay Area at 10:33 p.m. today morning, with the epicenter in Pleasant Hill areas. Tremor was well felt in the Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Concord areas. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 15 km depth. Weak shaking was also felt in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. USGS also mentioned that more earthquakes than usual (called aftershocks) will continue to occur near the mainshock. According to the earthquake forecast , over the next 1 week there is a 2 % chance of one or more aftershocks that are larger than magnitude 4.5.  Main Post: Recent Natural Disasters List October 15, 2019

Typhoon Hagibis kills 72, leaves 14 others missing

October 15, 2019: Landslides and floods caused by a powerful typhoon Hagibis has claimed lives of 72 people and left 14 others missing in Japan. On 12 October, Hagibis made landfall at Izu Peninsula as a Category 2–equivalent typhoon. Hagibis caused widespread damage across Japan, particularly in the Kantō region. According to The Guardian , the evacuation orders have been issued to more than 800,000 households across 11 prefectures in Japan.  The typhoon touched down southwest of Tokyo on Saturday. An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 shook the area shortly before the same time as the typhoon was making landfall. The earthquake was felt across Tokyo and Chiba.
