Ethiopia drought relief efort needs $500M

The drought relief effort in Ethiopia needs about $500 million to support programmes beyond April aimed at providing support to 10.2 million people facing severe food shortage, the U.N. World Food Programme said on Thursday. The El Niño weather system, on the back of 12 to 18 months of erratic or failed rains, has caused the worst drought in Ethiopia since the mid 1980s. Parts of Ethiopia are facing the worst drought in thirty years.

Massive sinkhole opens up along southern Oregon coast

A massive sinkhole has been reported on a road near Highway 101 along the coast of southern Oregon. "The sinkhole widened Thursday afternoon west of the highway in the town of Harbor," KPTV-TV reported quoting the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Sonic boom causes shaking in New Jersey: USGS

People across New Jersey and parts of New York and Connecticut felt multiple tremors on Thursday afternoon which were actually sonic booms caused by the testing of a fighter jet. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), at least  nine sonic booms were recorded over the course of an hour and a half. Earthquake-like shaking was felt from southern New Jersey along the Eastern Seaboard to Long Island, New York.
