Mount Shindake volcano eruption 2015: Japan issues highest alert

The Japan Meteorological Agency has raised the volcanic alert level of Mount Shindake to Level 5 - the top of its five-point warning system, issuing an evacuation directive. Around 80 residents have been taken refuge in a shelter on the island, Japan Today has written quoting the national broadcaster NHK .

Saitama earthquake rattles Tokyo – Briefly closes subways, airport

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 hit Saitama-ken Hokubu region, Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported. According to JMA, the earthquake had an intensity of 4 in parts Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo and Kanagawa. Earthquake intensity of 3 was felt in parts of Fukushima, Yamanashi, Nagano and Shizuoka. It was 31.06 miles deep.

Fear of volcanic eruption looms over Japan's Mount Zaosan

The Japan Meteorological Agency fears of Mount Zaosan volcanic eruption following several volcanic activities observed recently. An alert for a possible eruption of Mount Zaosan was issued on April 13. The climbers are urged not to enter a 1.2-kilometer area from the crater area due to the possibility of large rocks being ejected in an eruption, The Asahi Shimbun reported.

Tsunami observed as 2011 aftershock hits Japan

A tsunami has been observed as earthquakes with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 and 5.7 struck the Pacific off northeastern Japan on Tuesday. "A 20-centimeter wave was observed at Kuji port in Iwate roughly an hour later and a 10-cm wave in Miyako," the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said as quoted by the Kyodo News Agency. According to JMA, an earthquake with magnitude 6.9 struck at 8:06 am in the Pacific Ocean about 210 kilometers east of Miyako, Iwate Prefecture, at a depth of around 10 km and registered 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Akita prefectures.

Japan avalanches claim four including 2 Argentine nationals

A series of avalanches over the weekend in Nagano and Niigata prefectures of Japan have claimed lives of four people. An avalanche Sunday at Ryuoo Ski Park in Yamanouchi, Nagano Prefecture, killed two Argentine nationals. The 30-meter-wide, 200-meter-long avalanche started when the two Argentines skied off the prepared slope, The Japan Times has written quoting the Nagano Prefectural Police.

Snowstorms in Japan leave one dead; 300 flights cancelled

Snowstorms in Japan have claimed life of a truck driver. The truck driver died in a pileup on a snowy road in Otake, Hiroshima Prefecture, The Japan Times reported. According to the East Japan Railway Co., four bullet train services on its Akita Shinkansen Line were halted due to strong wind. In Hokkaido, 4,824 houses suffered blackouts in 20 municipalities including Nemuro, where a maximum wind speed of around 144 kph was recorded on Wednesday.

Mount Shindake in Kagoshima Prefecture has erupted for the first eruption in 34 years, The Asahi Simbun reported. Mount Shindake volcano located on Kuchinoerabujima island erupted at 12:24 p.m. sending plume of volcanic ash to a height of more than 800 meters.

Tsunami hits Fukushima – Seismologist says 'Japan earthquake 2011 aftershocks'

A minor tsunami of 20 centimetres (7.8 inches) has been observed in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture, and Ofunato, Iwate prefecture of Japan after magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the region, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Tidal waves of 10 cm were also logged in the city of Soma located about 40 km north of the Fukushima No. 1 plant, the agency said. The quake was registered at level four on the Japan's seismic scale of 7 in some parts of Fukushima prefecture. "Today's tremor was aftershock of 2011 quake", Japan Today has written quoting the seismologist Yasuhiro Yoshida of the Japan Meteorological Agency. "There are fears that relatively large earthquakes will occasionally occur in the ocean area where aftershocks of the great earthquake continue," the seismologist Yasuhiro Yoshida added. Typhoon Neoguri in Okinawa kills 1, more than 500,000 urged to evacuate

Typhoon Neoguri has claimed life of a person and urged more than 500,000 people to evacuate in Okinawa region of Japan. More than 50,000 households in Okinawa have lost power. Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an emergency storm surge warning early Tuesday for Miyako island and adjacent islets in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa. Typhoon Neoguri is expected to make landfall at Kyushu area in southwest Japan on Thursday. According to the US's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Typhoon Neoguri is expected to be the most powerful typhoon to hit Okinawa island in Japan in 15 years.
