Flooding in Chihuahua, Mexico: 1 killed, International Airport closed

Flooding in Chihuahua, Mexico has claimed life of a person and closed an International Airport. Heavy rains caused the Cacahuateles and Nogales Rivers to overflow which flooded the Chihuahua International Airport in Northern Mexico. Chihuahua has received the rainfall in three hours equivalent to an entire year causing huge flood damage. Mexican hurricane Erick leaves 1 dead, 3 missing

Hurricane Erick which is currently downgraded to a tropical depression has claimed life of one and left three missing in Mexico. Flood waters swept away a 44-year-old man in the Indio River in Mexico, AFP reported. Three others are reported to be missing in Xalisco area. Erick has caused extensive flood damage in Nayarit and left around 5,000 people homeless. A state of emergency has been declared by Governor Roberto Sandoval in Tepic. Erick reached the level of a category one hurricane on Saturday but on July 7 at 15:00 UTC, Erick was downgraded to a tropical storm. Erick is the fifth named storm and fourth hurricane of the 2013 Pacific hurricane season. Meanwhile another tropical storm Chantal is causing havoc in Barbados currently. Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano prompts cancellation of US airlines

US airlines have cancelled dozens of flights to and from Mexico City after Popocatepetl volcano spewed ash Thursday. US Airways, Delta, United, American and Alaska Airlines have cancelled their flights. Delta and American airlines have cancelled more than 40 flights into Mexico. According to Airport authorities, Popocatepetl volcano poses no risk to flights. Mexican airlines have continued their flights, BBC reported. Hurricane Cosme in Mexico claims 2 lives

Hurricane Cosme in Mexico has claimed lives of at least two people, The Voice Of Russia reported. A gust of wind and strong Ocean wave hit a boat killing a tourist, Guerrero authorities said. In another incident, a police officer died along Mexico City-Acapulco road. At least 19 people are reported to be injured in the tragedy. On June 24, Cosme developed into a Category 1 hurricane. Meteorologists at the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional has expected a "moderate" hazard risk along southern Mexican coastline. Tropical storm Barry hits Veracruz, Mexico: 3 killed

Tropical storm Barry has claimed lives of at least three people in Mexico and left one missing in El Salvador. Tropical storm Barry has caused heavy rainfall from northern Nicaragua to South-Central Mexico. A woman and her child were swept away by the swollen river in Oaxaca. Another person was swept away in Veracruz. Barry made landfall in Veracruz, Mexico on June 20 and caused damages in at least eight municipalities in Veracruz. Three people were injured and at least 1,200 residents were evacuated earlier. Tropical storm Barry impact Mexico: At least two killed. Several landslides occurred in Guerrero and Puebla. El Salvador: One killed, two others injured by lightning. Nicaragua: Flooding reported in 14 districts in the Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte. Honduras: At least 60 houses damaged in flooding, around 300 affected. Landslides reported in Iriona. Belize: At least 54 people evacuated from Hope Creek. Mexican flooding kills 1, damages 10,000 homes

At least one person has been killed in flooding in the Mexican city of Piedras Negras on the border with Texas. Mexican floods have damaged around 10,000 houses and left 40,000 peoples homeless. Piedras Negras received 60% of the rain usually seen in a full year, Fox news has reported quoting State government secretary Armando Luna Canales. Earthquake caused landslide in Mexico

M 5.8 strong earthquake shakes Mexico today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 22km W of Jolalpan. It was 33.4 miles deep. The epicenter was in Guerrero state near the border of Puebla. Mexico earthquake caused landslides along several roads and collapsed walls in Jiutepec, Morelos. Luckily no injury has been reported (earthquake damage report below). Hurricane Barbara claims 6

Update June 2, 2013 Hurricane Barbara caused heavy rainfall in Southwestern Mexico and Central America. Death toll has risen to six with four still missing. Hurricane damage is expected between $750,000 to $1 million. Hurricane Barbara which made landfall Wednesday on southern Pacific coast of Mexico has claimed lives of at least two people. An old man from Colorado died near Puerto Escondido when Hurricane Barbara made landfall at mid afternoon as a Category 1. The 61-year-old man was surfing at Playa Azul. Another 26-year-old Mexican man drowned in Pinotepa Nacional, Reuters reported quoting  local emergency management officials. At least 14 fisherman in Tapanatepec, Oaxaca are still reported to be missing. Oaxaca officials have prepared emergency shelters and suspended schools in coastal areas following Hurricane Barbara in Mexico. Landslide in Hidalgo, Mexico claims 7

Landslide in Hidalgo state of Mexico has claimed lives of at least seven people, Federal Police said. Landslide occurred on  the road and buried several vehicles and people when part of hill fall down. People of Tepeji del Rio had earlier mentioned about the unstable land in the area via twitter. Hailstorm in Tepeji, Mexico also injured four people and damaged 300 houses. Heavy rainfall and hailstorm in Tepeji del Rio caused landslide in the area. Earthquake in Puerto Vallarta today

M 4.4 light earthquake shakes Puerto Vallarta, Mexico today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 62 km S from Puerto Vallarta and 70 km S from Ixtapa, Jalisco, Mexico. It was 22.1 miles deep. Light to weak shaking was felt by the people of Puerto Vallarta, Cihuatlán, Bucerías, Colima and El Salto. Did you feel this earthquake? Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano spews water vapor plume

Popocatepetl volcano in Mexico has spewed water vapor plume around 9:30 am today, CENAPRED reports. Steam and ash column from Popocatepetl volcano reached a maximum height of 400 m. As of 17:00 UTC, no ash fall has been recorded in Puebla. Tremor felt in Mexico City and Ixtapa

M 5.2 moderate earthquake shakes Mexico City and Ixtapa today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 70 km far from Ixtapa. It was 33.3 miles deep. Tremor was even felt in capital Mexico City located about 290 km far from epicenter. Several people rushed out from their building in Ixtapa. Some people from Ixtapa are reporting minor cracks in their walls but it is yet to be officially confirmed. The 1985 Mexico City earthquake claimed lives of 10,000 plus. Earthquake also produced Tsunami. Earthquakes jolt Mexico, thousands flee, trains shut down

Four earthquakes have been recorded within thirty minutes in Mexico today. The first had a magnitude of 5.5, the second one of 5.1 and other two were below magnitude 5. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first quake's epicenter was located 17 km WSW of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional and 55 km SSE of Ometepec. It was 6.2 miles deep. Following USGS Pager Map, moderate shaking of MMI V will have felt by the people of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Pinotepa de Don Luis, San Pedro Jicayan, Santa Maria Huazolotitlan, San Andres Huaxpaltepec. People of Santiago Jamiltepec, Oaxaca de Juarez, Santa Cruz Xoxocotlan, Ciudad de Huajuapam de Leon, Chilpancingo de los Bravos and Acapulco de Juarez will have felt light to weak shaking. Forest fire in San Luis Potosi region of Mexico has killed a woman of 55 years old. Multiples forest fires have burned 2,500 hectares and displaced more than 400 people. Forest fire in San Luis Potosi, commonly called SLP or simply San Luis in Mexico has killed a woman of 55 years old. Woman couldn't successfully fight the fire and died due to carbon monoxide poisoning in Tamuin. Around 11 forest fires are currently burning across San Luis Potosi. Forest fires in San Luis Potosi have burned 2,500 hectares and displaced more than 400 people. Most of the displaced people are from Lagunillas and Huasteca region.
