Malaysia Earthquake Today: 4.7 earthquake strikes near Ranau

M 4.7 moderate earthquake shakes Malaysia today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 23 km NNW of Ranau. It was 10.8 miles deep.

Malaysia floods kill 1, evacuate 19,000

Floods in Malaysia have claimed life of a teenager and forced evacuations of around 19,000 people, officials said on Wednesday. Swollen river swept away a 17-year-old boy who was fishing with his father in Terengganu. Evacuated people are living in several schools in Pahang, Terengganu and Johor states of Malaysia, the National Security Council’s disaster relief centre said. Malaysian Meteorological Department had issued an "orange" alert for Pahang and Terengganu on Monday. More floods are expected to hit Kelantan area. Below is a you tube video by Strait Times showing the people living in evacuation centre at Kampung Pogoh 2 in Segamat. Floods are regular natural disasters in Malaysia which happen every year during the monsoon season. The 1971 Kuala Lumpur floods killed 32 people. 2 dead, 1 missing as river floods in Malaysia

Water released from a dam caused Bertam River to flood the Cameron Highlands claiming lives of two foreigners with another missing. Rescuers have found dead bodies of an Indonesian woman and a Bangladeshi man. River also flooded 80 squatter homes nearby, AFP reported. Indonesia earthquake shakes Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

M 4.8 moderate earthquake hits Indonesia today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 21 km ENE of Sibolga. It was 6.2 miles deep. Tremor was even felt across Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur. Landslide in Ukay Perdana, Malaysia claims 3

Landslide in Ukay Perdana, Malaysia has claimed lives of three workers and injured one other, The Star Online reported. Landslide hit eight workers at 11 a.m Wednesday at Sierra Ukay construction site. Four other workers managed to escape the disater. According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Depart­ment official, three of dead were from Myanmar whereas injured one was a Bangladeshi. Injured worker is having treatment at Ampang Hospital. State of emergency in Malaysia: Air pollution level reaches 16-years-high

State of emergency has been declared in Malaysia after the air pollutant index (API) reached 16-years-high. Malaysian government declared a state of emergency today in Muar and Ledang districts after the air pollutant index (API) hit 750 in Muar. Malaysian authorities have already closed all 221 schools in Muar and Ledang for two days due to health hazards. Similarly the Department of Environment has also issued a ban against open burning activities in Selangor, Malacca and Johor until further notice. During 1997-1998 haze, the air pollutant index (API) reached 860. Hazardous haze in Malaysia and Singapore have been caused by continued uncontrolled burning from plantation cultivation in Indonesia. 2013 Singapore haze is said to be worst in its history. A large-scale air quality disaster has hit Singapore and Malaysia. In Singapore, haze at 12 p.m. on 21 June 2013 reached 401 making a record of worst in its history. Singapore haze 2013 is caused by continued uncontrolled burning from plantation cultivation in Indonesia. Malaysia storm kills 2, more than 100 houses destroyed in Seberang Perai

At least two people died and five other were injured in storm in Penang, Malaysia. A 24m-high telecommunication antenna fell due to storm and damaged around eight vehicles. Injured people are having treatment at Penang Hospital. Malaysia Meteorological Department had forecast strong winds up to 50 km/hr in the state. Storm cleanup was immediately started by Penang Island Municipal Council workers. Flash flood has hit Alor Star, the Kedah province of Malaysia with worst in Taman Uda, Taman Ambar and Taman Muhibbah area. Around 1,000 residents have been affected by recent Malaysian flood, The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) reported. Landslide damages cars in Malaysia

At least nine cars damaged in a landslide near the Bukit Nanas monorail station in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Malaysia. Heavy rainfall cased a 25-metre high landslide and damaged cars, New Straits Times says. According to Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue, there was still soil movements due to the heavy rains. Landslide in Jayapura, Indonesia claims 3 lives

Landslide caused by heavy rainfall has claimed three lives and injured one in Jayapura, the provincial capital of Papua, Indonesia. Landslide disaster occurred in the Immanuel APO church complex in Jayapura Utara. Among the fatalities, one is17-year-old female student from SMU school Mandala Jayapura and others two are 23 and 26 years old female teachers. Heavy rainfall has caused huge mudslide in Taman Kledang Permai in Ipoh, Malaysia. Mudslide has also blocked Ipoh-Lumut highway. Heavy rainfall has caused huge mudslide in Taman Kledang Permai in Ipoh, Malaysia. Mudslide has also blocked Ipoh-Lumut highway. Mudslide disaster occurred around 4am on Friday. Following Malaysian newspaper, The Star, mudslide washed away at least three cars and has affected 250 residents in Taman Kledang Permai and Taman Arkid area.
