  • M 6.4 very strong but harmless sea quake in Andrean of Islands, Aleutian Is., Alaska (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 34 km S of Tanaga Volcano. No Tsunami expected.
    23:39 UTC (local time Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 02:39 PM @ epicenter)
  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Tanzania (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 35 km NNW of Msanga. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Dodoma, Kongwa and Mpwapwa.
    13:14 UTC (local time Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 04:14 PM @ epicenter) 
  • M 4.8 moderate aftershocks in Gulf of California (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 52 km N of La Paz. Classes were suspended and thousands of tourists were evacuated after magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit La Paz, Mexico yesterday.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Paraguay, Xingu, Rio Teles Pires, Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Japura and Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lukaga), Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and Venezuela (Orinoco).

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Dukono, Semeru, Batu Tara, Manam, Ulawun, Kizimen, Karymsky and Kilauea volcano.
  • Indonesia/Mount Marapi recent volcanic activity
    -Marapi volcano spewed ashes up to 1.5 kilometres into the sky.
    -It is the strongest since August last year. However no evacuation order issued because the nearest villages are far beyond the danger zone of three kilometres from the crater.

  • Super Typhoon Jelawat
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Jelawat (sty 18w) was located 360 nm east-northeast of Manila, Philippines.
    Storm Signal no. 2 issued in Cagayan, including the Babuyan and Calayan group of islands, and the Batanes group of Islands.
  • Hurricane Miriam
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Miriam was located 695 km SW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Miriam is a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale.
  • Tropical Storm Ewiniar
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Ewiniar was located 40 nm north of iwo-to, Japan.
  • Tropical Storm Nadine
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Nadine was located 820 km SSW of the Azores.
    - Nadine is moving toward the south-southwest near 5 mph. No threat to land.

  • Tornado in Washington, Illinois
    -Tornado caused damage to roof and wall to some homes in the Okawville area in Washington County, Ill.
    -Two people reported to be injured in Okawville tornado.

    -Wildfire burned 15 acres east of Hood River, Oregon, United States.
    -No damage or injury reported so far.

    Large earthquakes can alter seismicity patterns across the globe in very different ways, according to two new studies by U.S. Geological Survey seismologists. Both studies shed light on more than a decade of debate on the origin and prevalence of remotely triggered earthquakes. Until now, distant but damaging “aftershocks” have not been included in hazard assessments, yet in each study, changes in seismicity were predictable enough to be included in future evaluations of earthquake hazards.
