Global natural disaster insurance losses fell 47% in first half of 2015

Global natural disaster insurance losses during the first half of 2015 hit USD15 billion, down 47 percent during the first half of the year, according to Aon’s Global Catastrophe Recap: First Half of 2015 report. The catastrophes losses during the first half of 2015, from both an economic and insured loss perspective, were each below the 10-year (2005-2014) average. Preliminary data determined that economic losses were USD46 billion, down 58 percent from the 10-year average of USD107 billion, and insured losses were USD15 billion, down 47 percent from the 10-year average of USD28 billion.

Natural disaster cruelty rises as more dies in 2015 than previous years

Earthquake damage in Kathmandu, Nepal The death toll from natural disasters such as earthquakes and heatwaves have caused a large number of fatalities in Asia in the first six months of 2015, the world‘s largest reinsurance company Munich Re said on Tuesday. Reinsurance company Munich Re concluded by analyzing the natural catastrophes for the first half of 2015 which was characterised by the earthquake in Nepal and by the heatwave that affected India and Pakistan . Around 12,000 people died in these two natural calamities.

FEMA starts reviewing Sandy flood insurance claims

Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has started reviewing the flood insurance claims of hurricane Sandy victims. The step was taken following allegations of fraud involving the way some insurance companies assessed flood damage . However, Insurers have denied any wrongdoing.
