Flash floods in Jordan kills 12, tourist evacuated from Petra

November 13, 2018: Recent flash floods in Jordan have claimed lives of at least 12 people and forced the evacuation of more than 3,500 tourists from the ancient city of Petra and other popular destinations. According to Al Jazeera meteorologist Rob McElwee, the floods in Jordan are a result of bad infrastructure and changing climate.

Wildfires in California kill 72

November 15, 2018: At least 72 people have been killed in wildfires across California including 66 civilians and 6 firefighters. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the National Interagency Fire Center, this is one of the most destructive wildfire seasons on record in California, with a total of 7,579 fires burning an area of 1,667,855 acres, the largest amount of burned acreage recorded in a fire season.

Flash floods in Saudi Arabia kill 30

November 14, 2018: Flash floods in Saudi Arabia have killed at least 30 people over the past month. According to the Saudi Civil Defence, “The number of deaths from flash floods and related electric shocks in Saudi Arabia has reached 30."

Guatemala’s Fuego volcano eruption kills 25

June 4, 2018:  Volcán de Fuego in southern Guatemala began a violent volcanic eruption claiming lives of atleast 25 people. Another 46 people are missing, the  the authorities from Guatemala’s natural disaster commission , known as Conred said. ' Villages on the slopes of Fuego volcano were buried in volcanic ash, mud and rocks as the volcano erupted for 16 and a half hours on Sunday. The volcano, which sits less than 30 miles from the capital, Guatemala City, erupted just before noon Sunday and continued to spew ash, rocks and gas into the air. A second powerful eruption followed at 6:45 p.m, The New York Times reported. The ashfall forced the shutdown of La Aurora International Airport, the country's primary airport, where Guatemalan military have been deployed to keep ash off the tarmac.    President Jimmy Morales has declared three days of national mourning. Landslide in Oromia region of Ethiopia kills 32

May 28, 2018: Landslide in Oromia region of Ethiopia claimed lives of at least 32 people. Ethiopia's state-affiliated broadcaster, Fana Broadcasting Corporation reported that the landslide occurred due to heavy rainfall. At least 23 people died in a landslide in the Sidama zone. Other nine people died in the Gamo Gofa zone.
