Landslide in Oromia region of Ethiopia kills 32

May 28, 2018: Landslide in Oromia region of Ethiopia claimed lives of at least 32 people. Ethiopia's state-affiliated broadcaster, Fana Broadcasting Corporation reported that the landslide occurred due to heavy rainfall. At least 23 people died in a landslide in the Sidama zone. Other nine people died in the Gamo Gofa zone.

Cyclone Mekunu kills 13 in Oman and Yemen

May 29, 2018: Severe cyclone Mekunu has claimed lives of at least 13 people in Oman and Yemen, including seven on Socotra, and six in Oman. Mekunu made landfall on the Omani coast near the city of Salalah at peak intensity.  Cyclonic Storm Mekunu was the most intense tropical cyclone to make landfall over the Arabian Peninsula on record.

Moderate earthquake in Mayotte rocks capital Mamoudzou

May 25, 2018: Magnitude 5.0 moderate earthquake rattled Mayotte today at 09:36 am local time. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's epicenter was located 36 km E of Pamandzi. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km. The tremor was well felt in Pamanzi, Dzaoudzi, Mamoudzou and Ouangani area. Mayotte has been continuously experiencing several light to moderate earthquakes from last few days. This is the second moderate earthquake of the day. At 08:43 am local time, magnitude 4.6 earthquake rattled Mayotte. Mayotte is an insular department and region of France officially named the Department of Mayotte. FEMA hosts Delaware flood insurance partners roundtable

May 18, 2018: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region III, in partnership with the State of Delaware, hosted the Delaware Flood Insurance Partners Roundtable. FEMA, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) planned and coordinated the roundtable to bring together key stakeholders to discuss insurance.  The meeting included key local, state, federal, and private sector partners, including Delaware State Agency partners, floodplain managers, emergency managers, realtors, lenders, and insurance agents from across the state to engage in a critical discussion on increasing flood insurance coverage in Delaware and reducing flood risk. West Virginia to receive $7.9 million to improve emergency preparedness

May 21, 2018: West Virginia will receive $7.9 million to improve emergency preparedness . According to the news release, the state will receive more than $3.9 million under the State Homeland Security Program, more than $3.7 million under the Emergency Management Performance Grants program and $150,000 under the Nonprofit Security Grant State Program. About half of the funding is to help with protection against acts of terrorism and other catastrophic events, while the $3.7 million will help prepare for all hazards and the $150,000 will assist nonprofit organizations with preparedness.
