M5.2 earthquake in Dolakha halts election vote counting

December 8, 2017: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale hit Dolakha at 08:36 am local time, the Nepal Seismological Center reported. The earthquake occurred at shallow depth of 10 km, around 83 km east of Capital Kathmandu. It was very close to the district's headquarter Jiri.

Hurricane Maria kills 129 people, worst natural disaster in Dominica

November 10, 2017: At least 129 people are confirmed dead due to Hurricane Maria; 55 in Puerto Rico, 57 in Dominica, 5 in the Dominican Republic, 4 in the contiguous United States, 3 in Haiti, 2 in Guadeloupe, and 3 in the United States Virgin Islands. Hurricane Maria is regarded as the worst natural disaster on record in Dominica. Maria caused catastrophic damage and a major humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.

Decades worst natural disaster in Greece kills 16

November 17, 2017: The worst natural disaster that hit the Greek capital Athens in decades has claimed lives of at least 16 people. Nearly all of the fatalities occurred in Mandra, and authorities said about 500 homes and businesses were damaged, The Weather Channel reported.

Floods and landslides in Vietnam kill 72

October 13, 2017: At least 72 people have been killed in flood and landslide caused by typhoon Khanun. According to the Vietnam's disaster agency, at least eighteen people died in Hoa Binh province by a landslide. Khanun has weakened from a typhoon after passing south of Hong Kong. According to the World Bank, natural disasters have killed more than 13,000 people and caused more than $6.4bn in property damage over the past 20 years in Vietnam.
