Pacific hurricane Marie kills 1, produces largest swell in southern California

Hurricane Marie is the sixth-most intense Pacific hurricane on record which became the first Category 5 hurricane in the Northeast Pacific since Hurricane Cella in 2010. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) upgraded Marie to Category 5 hurricane on August 24.

Federal Emergency Management Agency: $84,740 granted to Stearns County for tornado safe room construction

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted $84,740 in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds to Stearns County, Minnesota for the construction of a safe room at the Rose Park manufactured home community, FEMA said in its news release on August 27, 2014.
