Earthquake in Iran today shakes buildings in Dubai

M 5.1 moderate earthquake in Iran today shakes buildings in Dubai, officials at UAE’s National Center of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS) confirmed. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 156 km northeast of Dubai and 273 km northeast of Abu Dhabi. It was 6.2 miles deep. Many buildings were evacuated in Dubai. 3 missing in massive mudslide in western Colorado

At least three people have been missing in the massive mudslide that struck near the small mountain town of Colbran at around 6:15 p.m. local time Sunday. The three missing men have been identified as Clancy Nichols, his son Danny Nichols, and Wes Hawkins, USA Today reported. The area is part of the Piceance Basin, one of Colorado's largest natural gas producing areas.  The western Colorado mudslide is estimated to be 2 miles wide, 4 miles long and up to 250 feet deep in places, The Weather Channel has mentioned quoting the Mesa County Sheriff's Department.   Original post: Natural Disasters List May 27, 2014

South China floods kill 19, emergency response system activated

Heavy flooding in South China has claimed lives of at least 19 people and left 7 others missing, Xinhua News reported. Guangzhou, Zhaoqing and Qingyuan cities have been flooded, the provincial flood contorl and civil affairs authorities said. Recent flooding has affected more than 140,000 people and collapsed around 1,143 houses, flood control department added. 3 killed in avalanche on Kanchenjunga, the world's third tallest peak

Mount Kanchenjunga avalanche in Nepal has claimed lives of three people including one from India. According to the Nepalese officials, the three were swept away by an avalanche and were believed to be dead. They scaled Kanchenjunga on Sunday and were attempting to climb Yalung Kang, a sister peak. The deceased have been identified as Temba Sherpa and Dawa Wangju Sherpa of Taamku VDC-5, Taplejung, Nepal and Chanda Gayen of West Bengal, India. Gayen is known as the first civilian woman from West Bengal to climb Mount Everest. The single deadliest avalanche ever on the world's highest peak, Mount Everest had claimed lives of at least 15 people a few weeks ago. At least five mountaineers were killed in an avalanche while returning from the peak of Mt Kanchenjunga a year ago. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world located in Nepal.
