Flooding in northern Portugal kills a cyclist

Source:  Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera Flooding in northern Portugal has claimed life of a cyclist after being swept away by a river. River Vouga swept away the man whose body was recovered by firefighters from the northern town of Albergaria-a-Velha. The National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) noted more than 70 events due to bad weather, mainly from Braga , Coimbra and Porto districts. 

Hurricane Alex landfalls on Terceira Island, Azores

Hurricane Alex made landfall on the island of Terceira in the central Azores Friday, the National Hurricane Center confirmed. At 15:00 UTC, Hurricane Alex was located 55 km N of Terceira in the Azores with a maximum sustained winds of 70 mph.

Portugal wildfire 2013 kills 1 firefighter, injures 6

Recent wildfire in Portugal has claimed life of a firefighter and injured six others, Civil protection agency confirmed. Incident happened in Tondela, in north central Portugal. According to Portuguese medias, around 700 firefighters are battling several blazes in north central and northern Portugal. Landslide in Faial da Terra, Portugal claims 3 lives

A landslide at a Portuguese Faial da Terra, Sao Miguel Islands has claimed three lives and destroyed three houses. Update 11:15 UTC -Death toll from landslide on the island of São Miguel in the Azores has risen to three. Father (earlier mentioned) and two brothers in another house collapse have died. A landslide in Portugal has claimed two lives. Landslide occurred in the village of Faial da Terra on Sao Miguel Island (Azores Islands). Firefighters rescued three children aged 5, eight and 16 and their mother from the mud landslide . Father died in the disaster.
