Very strong earthquake hits Panama/Colombia border

Update 16:15 UTC According to the USGS, earthquake had its epicenter 102 km WSW of Mutis, Colombia. Shaking Intensity (MMI) Light (IV): Nuqui, Mutis, Pizarro, Bellavista, Pie de Pato and Vigia del Fuerte. Weak (II-III): Medellin, Pereira, Manizales, Cali and Neiva. At 11:42 am EDT a 6.7 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of the Panama/Colombia border. No widespread tsunami threat from the 6.7 quake but a local tsunami is possible for Pacific Coast of Panama and Colombia. News to follow.... Panama landslide kills 4 of a family

Landslide in Panama has claimed lives of four members of a single family, including a six-year-old girl. Landslide hit a house in Cristobal, in the community of Villa Ludmila, Colon province of Panama where five members of a family were sleeping. Strong earthquake in Panama-Costa Rica border shakes San Jose

Update 10:05 UTC USGS estimates maximum shaking intensity of VII (very strong) in the epicenter area. People are reporting weak tremor as far as from Naranjo and Palmar. Both places are 200+ km far from epicenter area. How was the shaking in your area? According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 12km SSW of Guabito. It was 7.0 miles deep.
