Flooding in Mersing and Kota Tinggi, Johor — Thousands evacuated

December 15, 2019: Thousands of people have been evacuated in Mersing, Kluang and Kota Tinggi in Johor and moved to temporary relief centres after their homes were hit by floods following heavy rainfall. According to the Johor Disaster Management Committee, the most affected district was Mersing with 1,262 victims, followed by Kota Tinggi with 1,071 victims and Kluang with 1,053 victims. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has upgraded its weather warning alert for Mersing and Kota Tinggi from yellow to red.

MALAYSIA: Jalan Duta Flash Flood causes damages

October 22, 2019: Flash floods caused by continuous rainfall hit several major roads in Kuala Lumpur affecting roads at Jalan Duta, bringing damages in the area. Flash flood damaged the wall in Kampung Dato Keramat and a tree thrashed a car at Jalan U-Thant. "Three vehicles were caught in the flash flood at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim," Malaysiakini reported quoting Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS). Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that there is no victim reported. Yesterday, the Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry had issued flood warning for the low lying areas. According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) weather forecast, there is monsoon transition period until early next month.
